Hi guys,

was thinking of doing a recreation of The warlock of Firetop Mountain using the creation kit. For all you youngsters the Warlock of Firetop Mountain is a single-player adventure gamebook written by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone back in 1982. How do I stand with uploading to the Nexus? Do I have to change the names to protect.... you get the idea.

Thanks for any help

I bet you are pretty safe. The year 1982 was a fairly long time ago. There are lots of other mods that people upload that are based on other games and movies and things. Your mod would not make you any money, so you would not be stealing the work of someone else for profit. It would be more like fan fiction. I think you are probably okay building and uploading your mod. The worst case scenario is probably that you would have to pull down your mod.

Wow, used to love those game books :)

Be a great idea for a mod.

(Obviously I'm not that old, must be time travel or something lol)

lol

Going to try to keep as true as I can to the books. If It works out I might do Death Trap Dungeon next. Might take a while as I'm new to the creation kit and have a lot to learn.

Though it might not be a big deal to many, it might be a big deal to the author/copyright owner. If you make it exactly as the story goes in the book, same elements, same names, same everything, there would be cause for a copyright infringement case should they find out that it's been made. This is not a matter of simple creative commons or even fan fiction because you are duplicating someone elses work not creating a derivative of.

If you want to keep it true and exact to the book, I would suggest getting permission from the author/publisher first.

That's my somewhat educated opinion.

Hmm, would hate to put in all that work not to be able to share and I'm wondering if the authors would even get back to me. Worth a try I guess. :ermm:
