Gadge Posted April 22, 2008 Share Posted April 22, 2008 Hello, and please, please help me. My mod journey has been fraught with lack of gameplay. So far with mods in Oblivion, I've had it crash before loading, crash in the first second of the Bethesda opening screen appearing, crash upon the first second of loading a saved game, crash at random times when moving through to different areas - mostly in personal view, but also in fast travel, crash while randomly traveling, and crash at the start of the game proper and when leaving it. I've had the 'no eyes on characters' effect, no water displaying, and the game completely freezing if asking for a random face on character creation. Currently, I have two different characters; one is the one that has been ongoing through all the mod changes I've made, and the other is a new character started after all the mod-wars to try and circumvent the situation. If need be, I'll stick with the second character, but it would be nice to try and make it work for the first as well. The problems as they stand right now: the older character cannot travel through the countryside without the game crashing shortly into it - as in, 10-25 seconds. But worse, the newer character can't leave the sewers without the game going CTD - the loading screen completes, the gate creaks open and the music starts, but even as that happens the game is CTD-ing. As far as I can tell, water might be to blame this time, since it wasn't showing up in the sewers, but the other character was having the crash without water being present. The other difference between the two? The 'some things from this save file might no longer be present' screen pops up immediately for the newer character, but fades in on the older. When playing through the tutorial again for the fresh character, when he got to the gate and it crashed, I had my 'saved for any new characters' game ready to load, but I can't think of what I might have done to make the file think things had been changed, even though it says that something has in terms of possibly losing data from mods no longer being there. I have Oblivion Mod Manager and Wyre Bash, but neither seem to work properly; conflict resolution in the former results in a long screen of unfathomable (to me) words, followed by a programme-crashing error upon looking at certain categories. Wyre Bash, meanwhile, is much easier to understand in terms of where conflicts might be, but has a fault in it currently that prevents what seem to be the best fixing methods by plain not working - and I can't even close the programme except by force-quitting. Have you done any editing on your Oblivion.ini file? You no longer need Oblivion Citadel door fix as that is included in the unofficial Oblivion patch. I would try reinstalling Wrye Bash. The problem you seem to be having with it is not typical. The fact that you see a problem in OBMM also makes me think that there may be a problem with your main game or the bsa files. Then, disable all of your mods. try the game and see if it works. If not, then you will have to reinstall. If it does, try enabling your mods in small groups of about 5 or 6 and testing after each group. This will narrow down which mod is causing your problem. Have you done any editing on your Oblivion.ini file? First of all, thank you kindly for your reply, it was helpful. I downloaded and installed OBSE, which I don't know if it helped but it didn't hurt. I also never would fiddle with the oblivion.ini file - I have no skills in that area. There was a problem with my Wrye Bash, which his latest update seemed to fix, and I took out most every mod and the game worked, at least with a new game save files. My current load list is at the bottom of the post, and it seems creating a character more than once is a rite of passage for the game. The game has crashed out a couple of times since, but since I'm a) saving all the time, and b) thinking it might be graphic overload after several hours of play, it's not a huge deal. Also, the new races at character creation have the empty eye thing, but I don't particularly want to play as them. I just hope I still get weather effects - I really enjoyed running through a torrential downpour. And the only other tampering with the mod system I'd be tempted to do is to see if I could get a way to not be able to harm my companions on a quest. They keep getting in the way, and it's awkward, to say the least. Thank you again.
