The Petition:

  1. 1. I agree that Nexus should separate Lore mods and Non-Lore mods into two separate categories before searching through mods.

Dear Readers & Nexus Administration,

(Edit: PLEASE ONCE YOU VOTE, SHARE THIS WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND OTHERS. SPREAD THE WORD OF THIS PETITION!)

It hasn't gone unnoticed that there has been many discussions, debates, and arguments through these forums, and other forums regarding how tedious it can be to search through lore-based mod's due to the various work's of non-lore ones. To clearify:

Lore Mod's (Mods that fit the theme of Skyrim):

-Recreated Armor or Weapons from prior ES games,

-Homes and abodes created with stock or same-timeline textures,

-Companion's that fit within the theme of Skyrim,

-Any game tweaks that aren't overzealous to which it would break the immersion of the game.

Non-Lore Mod's (Mods that don't fit the theme of Skyrim):

-Fictional character's from other games/shows/movies/etc,

-Anime appearance tweaks,

-Weapons and Apparel from other games, or from a particular time-line that (WH40K, Link's outfit, Any modern article of clothing ) ,

-Nude Mods,

-Animation mods that resemble things of modern times (The Shuffle, The dougie, any form of breakdance, parkour ninjitsu flips,).

The list can carry on into a novel of differences.

This is a petition to separate such mods into a category that would would make it easier for both individuals who seek one without the other. This petition is in no way stating that I (Or anyone who signs this petition) have anything against Non-lore mods, and take in the belief "to each their own." Freedom of choice. This is just a way easier solution that makes it easier for everyone to site, that what they are looking for, is what they are getting in the end without the hassle of searching through a lot of what they don't want or care to have a look at.

Please take a second to hit "Yes" or "No" and express a comment as to what you feel about the petition. I'm going to continue to keep this topic updated, and in hopes that someone from the Nexus team may recognize this as an important subject.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this, and hope the idea inspires the change.

~Rob

While I sympathize with all the users who are frustrated and upset because they have to spend a few minutes searching through mods to find one that meets their idea of lore or non-lore, the idea of separating lore and non-lore mods raises at least one question.

Who decides?

If I make a mod and mark it as "lore" and someone else thinks it isn't lore based (or I mark it as non-lore and someone thinks it is lore based - the non-lore based group has the same right to complain if they don't think my mod is sufficiently non-lore based) - then what?

How is it determined if a mod is lore or non-lore? A vote system? Moderators choice? Knife fight in Dark0ne's back yard (video posted to the Nexus)?

What if I don't tag the mod as "lore" or "non-lore". Is there a third category available?

Will there be a category for a mod that has, for example, lore based armor, but a non-lore based weapon (how overzealous must the tweak be?)? Will the category for a mod with non-lore based armor but a lore based weapon be the same category as above or a different one?

My lore is not your lore, your lore is not my lore, no one's lore is anyone else's lore. Trying to categorize mods to meet some vague idea of lore or non-lore is impossible and I doubt the owner or moderators are willing to step into such folly.

This.

The only 'lore friendly' mods should be ones that Bethesda makes. It's their lore. Anything and everything else is by definition non-canon. Not to mention that it smacks of trying to compel people to make mods or play mods that they enjoy but somehow shame or influence people into making stuff that you want. A doomed idea to begin with for one thing and ultimately destructive to the community for another. More mods = more content = more people involved = greater odds of content that appeals to you, whatever that is.

Anything that tries to create an impression of one thing being superior to another will inevitably skew opinion. That's not going to make someone who wants to make, say, a mod for authentic japanese armor make something more Akaviri style instead. Someone feels a jones to make japanese armor they will, if they think their hard work will be mocked they probably won't. However someone else might see that same armor and decide to ask for permission to modify it into Akaviri armor. There are tons of examples of that sort of stuff on the forums.

More = better. Even if you don't like it all content adds to the whole which then breeds more content.

This entire petition is a waste of time, there already is a Lore-Friendly tag in place. It is up to the modders themselves to choose to apply that tag, and the end-users to take the time to do a Tag Search with that active rather than just a generic/advanced search. You have the tools in place already, use them.

Most people consider lore to be "Aesthetically" accurate for the world.

But due to the subjective nature of the content, we can't exactly separate mods, except for the "Anime" and third-party content.

Overall, the very reason this argument exists is because people have various tastes, which is the same reason modding is popular.

By creating arbitrary categories, you are working AGAINST the purpose of modding. Yes its a little inconvenient to have to sift through a few extra mods, but I think its worth it.

Yes I agree with this. I find anime mods to be seriously creepy - I find the idea of child like faces on adult bodies dubious at best, and some kind of search function to get rid of them on the site is a good idea.

They aren't hurting anyone, per se, but I would prefer not to things like that appear in search results, it lowers my percieved integrity of the whole site. We can censor nudity on the site to our taste, which is great! (when uploaders are responsible!) We should be able to do this with non-lore mods.
