LP08
They never should have made it so that Steam automatically checks and updates installed mods at every launch. Mainly, because people don't generally want that, they want more control. And secondly, because of exactly what is happening today. The servers can't take the load. People who are modding are starting up Skyrim over and over and over again to test things out. The amount of unnecessary server load is just insane. Why in the world would they set it up to constantly check and re-download already installed mods? They should let users do it manually.

ileamonster
Same thing is happening for me.I'm really getting tired of steam dicking around with stuff.
Ohmydoddtv
A lot of mods have also gone missing from the steam workshop. I agree with the fact that they shouldn't be checking for updates and things with every launch, it's stupid. There should be a 'check for updates' button or something... LaughingMan2011
Does the same thing for me. I just went into NMM and clicked start from SKSE and it worked.
AndrewFL9
"The workshop is experiencing problems right now. Steam advises that a power outage in the US server cluster has caused their database servers to shutdown. They have restored most services but there are still lingering issues. Any workshop/MOD/Skyrim Launcher issues you experience are related to this outage." From the steam creation kit group chat. Edit: It also says if you have problems with the launcher click play before it crashes. I've just been using skse myself. Edited February 13, 2012 by AndrewFL9
ileamonster
I tried that too and it worked as well, except all my mods weren't active and every time I tried to fire a bow, it would freeze and quit.I'm not the only one having that problem either. JakeDragon555
Is there a way to change the display settings without going into the launcher?
AndrewFL9
Try starting steam in offline mode (no internet) and then launching. Then you can change your display settings without it crashing, or at least that's what worked for me.
