Hnyakwai
I have been thinking about making a perk overhaul mod, but knowing how busy I am at work I know that I will never actually make it myself. However, I really want to play with it, so I decided to float it to see if anybody else thinks that it is a good idea. Maybe someone will actually take it and run with it. For me, the perk system in Fallout 3 was much more rewarding that the perk system in Skyrim, and the I think that the basic reason is because every Perk really made a significant difference to my character. In Skyrim, it seems like I have to choose a new perk every 15 minutes, and each one makes essentially no difference to how powerful my character is in the world. Basic Problems with Skyrim Perk System:1) There are too many perks2) When I choose a perk, it doesn't seem meaningful because I'll just choose another one in 15 minutes3) Each perk on it's own doesn't really make a significant difference to my character. Features of the Perk overhaul proposal1) Combine perks so there are only ~4 per skill2) Drastically reduce the number of levels (perhaps soft cap of 20 and hard cap of 30)3) Tie statistic increases directly to skill levels4) Only allow perk selection through trainers That's it. By making it much more difficult, but also much more rewarding to get perks I think it will really add to the feeling of accomplishment in the game. I set out to start making this mod, but I realized that messing with perk points is not built in the basic papyrus scripting functions, and it looks like it either needs an SKSE command to be created, or a custom SKSE plugin.
