Darkonus
NOTE - I'm not exactly sure what forum this should be in since there isn't a forum devoted to un-made mod questions and I'm tired enough that a list of rules doesn't give me answer enough.I wrote out a nice long re-telling of the past months between when I got Skyrim the day after it's release, and today. And then that was erased when the forums seemingly crashed - at least for me - so I'm making a shorter version since nobody would have wanted to read my massive wall of text ANYWAY. I'm writing a book, which will also be a game eventually. Since like mentioned in the topic desc., what with me being new to modding and all I really don't have a chance at making a game yet. I figured the best place for me to get started is in modding, since I'll be making all of my meshes and textures from scratch and Skyrim is a good environment to try it all out in. But it's not just a mesh and a texture, which in and of itself I can't make yet anyway since I CANNOT GET A WORKING CONFIGURATION OF BLENDER THAT WILL EXPORT IN .NIF FORMAT, something I've been pretty rage-ey about for some months. No, I couldn't think small like that. I couldn't come up with a nice simple idea. I want to make the following! A sword, which will be flagged as a weapon separate from 1H weapons, 2H swords/axes, etc. etc., with it's own unique set of animations and an EXTREMELY outlandish attack range/speed. (The game I will be making in some years will be, to use an example or two, similar in combat aspects to a hack-and-slash game like Prototype or Devil May Cry, but with all of the story of a Final Fantasy game (but made for people to be able to understand without five sequels and a movie), the world size of an MMO and the freedom of a sandbox-style game. (Yes, I do intend to use MORE than just ONE disk; I'm not delusional and I'm not here to discuss my plans for the game anyway...) On top of that I need help finding tutorials that will help me use Blender to make the sword, use GIMP to texture it, figure out exactly how you line up those crazy pieces of the design to fit on the sword in the first place, add it to the game with it's unique tag, make extremely detailed unreasonable-numbers-of-frames-compared-to-vanilla-Skyrim animations, a perk tree devoted solely to learning new abilities for the sword... I also need to get a working Blender config, preferably with just one download since every single 'kit' made from several pieces has so far not exported in .nif if it worked at all and the fact that no two configs were the same drives me up the wall. It would also be really good if I could confirm rather or not it's possible to add another category for powers/spells/abilities etc. and if so, can I add a new menu to the unpaused UI with hotkeys to switch between abilties or at the very least use them after selecting them from the menu? Answers to ANY of my questions would be great, but honestly, without Blender working I can't even find the motivation to start on any of this given how depressed I've been for the past few years. (Long, long story that you don't want me going emo about explaining to you...) Thanks in advance anyone that answers, reads, or even just goes straight to this last line because they want to see a "TL;DR" version. I've been working for MONTHS just to figure out how I can get STARTED and the frustration and other various emotions are stifling me, so I've given up and I'm asking for help at last. Flame me as much as you wish for asking of so much, I'm so desperate I'd be a punching bag for your sake if only to get started.
CampanaAliquanta
Tutorials for importing/exporting nifs into Blenderhttp://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3790http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Creating_an_armour_for_Skyrim._Part_1 With models your workflow is:1) Make a highpoly model2) Texture it3) Bake texture of the high poly model including normals and bump map4) Simplify the mesh/make a lowpoly version of the model, and use the high poly textures to make it look more detailed Google for a tutorial on creating weapons in blender for games and you should get a bunch of hits. Most tutorials don't cover everything you need, so you might need to use different tutorials for each step.
Darkonus
As I've said, the problem is actually getting it to export properly, not just being unable to comprehend how to do it. The 'Netimmerse/gamebryo' option for exporting that I keep seeing in tutorial after tutorial is not there, despite installing the demanded Python, PyFFI and Blender nifscripts bits. It's simply not there. The rest of the tutorial looks both promising and not - I'll be reading through the full tutorial anyway, because I like to give people the benefit of the doubt when they try to help me. The page of downloadable bits in sourceforge is the one I've been seeing the most frequently, and also the first one I tried. I have not been able to successfully get it exporting, even after someone spelled out what to do and I followed word for word the instructions. I'm honestly not an idiot, I learn extremely quickly and can follow directions quite well, I'm not exactly using my first computer here so I can't begin to grasp what I'm doing wrong installing it. At this point I really do think the only way I'll get it working is if someone puts a complete package up for download. =\ Edited February 13, 2012 by Darkonus
