iRobsta
SpellArchery mod name is still a work in progress. It will be a cool name. About me: I'm not a big fan of spells, not just in Skyrim, but just spells in general. Okay .... so it's not entirely true. I do love necromancy. Summoning the undead and my own monsters is something that I do enjoy, but what I do enjoy more, is archery. I have zero modding experience, so this will be my first project. I do have programming experience, considering I am in a Software Engineering course. If you consider the Starcraft 2 editor a form of modding, the I guess I do have modding experience? I am very dedicated, and I love Skyrim. Two very good combo's. About this mod: Spell and bow integration? What does that mean? Well, honestly, it's always really bugged me that I have one hand free when I'm running around with a bow and I can't have a spell on that. I'd have to swap out the boy just so I could pull out my one hand with my summoning spell equipping. Well no more, I say, no more. I want to be able to have my bow in one hand, and a spell in the other. This will be a perk of course so this will be something you have to work for. Actually, it will be multiple perk scattered between magic and archery. I never used spell other than summoning things, so I feel like I'm missing a big part of Skyrim, and it makes me sad. With this mod I hope to bring more life to spells for me, for players who also experience what I am. This is not stating that Skyrim spells are bad, it's just something I don't find very interesting. So what exactly will this do? - allows holding bow and spell at the same time, essentially making the bow one handed. What hand exactly is undetermined, whether it will work like a sword or just one hand no matter what. - spell integration with arrows*- can summon spells, use ward, destruction, heal, etc. Dual casting won't be possible if the bow is also equipped Note: This list might/might not change. The interesting part: This is reference to the second point to what the mod will exactly do. Shooting arrow and have spell in hand at the same time sounds simple and plane enough. But wait, there's more!"Integration" sounds much more interesting than just holding a spell and a bow. When shooting the arrow with both bow and spell equipped, it will apply the spell "effect" to the arrow. What?! Rigged you say? I say, nay. It won't truly make it unbalanced. Spell affected arrows won't have the same scaling as a spell, it will apply more of an effect vs the scale of damage. For instance, a spark spell does x amount of damage. The damage will not be transferred 1:1 but rather something much smaller, but will give the arrow an electric attribute, thus allows you to use you're spells and arrows more tactically, exposing your enemy's weaknesses and such. With this in mind, not every spell would be integrated. Conjugation spells is still something I'm thinking about, exactly how it will work with this idea. I'm open to ideas, I was just thinking of having it just as a regular spell that does what it does, and when you choose to shoot an arrow there will be a slight delay to bringing out the arrow (maybe you do it a tad slower or none at all) instead of apply any effects on the arrow. The intention of this is so it would be faster to use spells like this (if single casting of course) rather than switching totally as it is now. Other spells that make no sense to be integrated with arrows won't be, they will just have the same idea as the conjugation spell. Unless of course, I hit some super smart idea and decide to add it, or someone else has some super cool idea. Everyone has some. :D How will I make this happen? Well honestly, I have no idea. Hard work I guess? As I've stated before, I have no experience with modding, or better yet, no experience with Bethesda tools and scripting. I would like hints and tips on creating this mod, maybe some good tutorials that seem like they would benefit me, as I have no idea where to start, find out how wielding works in this game? maybe? I want to create a checklist sorta deal in this sections so people can see whats new and how this mod is going, those that are interested and all I have to say about that is it'll have wait, or I'll though up a "alpha" list because it will change, the more I understand this kit and how Bethesda runs their stuff, the better I will understand where I am going. Here is the alpha list for now: Firm understand of the creation kit nearly completeDual wielding aspect uncheckedArrow shooting with spell and bow out uncheckedSpell integration with arrows uncheckedCustom perks uncheckedTesting phase unchecked User inputs and more I want the community input on this all negative, positive, constructive thoughts and comments. I will be adding tutorials I find and links to great information I find that is relevant to the creation of this mod. Why? Well, like I said. I'm new, and I'm not sure where to start. I'm 1000% sure that are many people out there, with incredible idea's for this game and mod's that they want to create but just aren't sure where to start. By having this little section dedicated to what I'm learning and going through it might open doors to people thinking hey, if he can, so can I. I know there are resources out there for beginners, but there are just so many. Some are and aren't relevant to what I want to do. This will just be for my mod. Tutorials and such - Creation Kit wiki: Getting Started User comments: Integrate ... enchantments applied to the bow depending on what spell you are wielding in the free hand. You could create a dedicated spell key, like the shout key. Then while you have a bow equipped you could use spells, and add effects to your arrows through the spells. This would also be super awesome for dual wielding and two handed. Working on a Revamped combat mod yes I'm doing multiple mods at once .. It's how I do things D: What is it?"Realist combat". Head shots/hit detection, rolling/tumbling, jumping while sprinting, shooting arrows in mid air (drawn arrow before the jump) and much more.Big goals here, all achievable and in progress.Currently working on a really cool one, "weapon grinding". Anyone every play Dragon Ball Z? When both players did the a "beam" move at the same time, they would collide and you'd have to spam a specific key in order to win. Same deal here but with swords. It's a work in progress, but progress indeed. Everyone should be excited (: Please note: This post will, might or might not change considering that it is under alpha. Making it maybe look neater, more up to date, better information, videos of progress and such.. Edited April 15, 2012 by iRobsta
civ77
To integrate it you could have enchantments applied to the bow depending on what spell you are wielding in the free hand. As far as I know it would even be possible to use this to summon things or turn enemies on arrow impact. Good luck, this sounds like a really cool mod. But just having your flaming spell in you hand, grab an arrow, ignite an arrow, and shoot the arrow, just seems to cool to me (: And thanks, It shall be cool.
