using models from fallout - meshes.bsa

just need to clarify something about importing .nif files. I need to make a static version of a model that's in the vanilla game (the deathclaw gauntlet), the issue is, do I need to include the extracted models with the .esp file?

If so it seems like a ridiculous waste of bandwidth considering that anyone who can use the mod must already have those models, so for a test run I did the following...

1) extract the model from the fallout - meshes.bsa file

2) place it into the exact same location within the data folder (meshes/weapons/hand2hand/)

3) in the GECK, make a new static, find the model and select it.

4) check that in both the new static, and the pre-existing item, both locations are the same (apart from letter case)

5) add a reference of the new static to a test map

6) save and quit GECK

7) change the weapons folder to weapons1 to simulate not having the extracted model

8) play fallout 3 and find the static sitting there all not being a red exclamation mark.

well, so far so good, but I figure I should double check in case I've done something wrong here. Has anyone here done this? did it work?
