I am in the process of porting some follower mods. Ran one through creation kit and I got a bonus file. A Tes file. SOooo what is a Tes file and will new skyrim actually read/ use it? Or is it yet another example of how half arsed beth was when upgrading creation kt to 64bit ? From very little information on google it may hark way back to Morrowind ? The ported follower mod is from old skyrim.

For the next person who finds this thread, I think the '.tes' file is a backup file created to avoid losing data when the .esp (etc) file can't be written to. I inadvertently left SSEEdit open and it was holding a lock on the file, so rather than lose it entirely, CK writes it to the .tes file. Unfortunately it doesn't advertise this very well!

From the logs...

MASTERFILE: Unable to complete operation due to failure removing previous file.
Plugin 'Data\XXX.esp' may be locked or read only.

Temp file 'Data\XXX.tes' contains saved data.
