Morgo hasn't said a word for many hours now. He just follows the party and lags behind. Suddenly, Morgo falls to the ground... darkness takes over him and hey lays lifeless on the floor.

There is a sudden vision... Morgo finds himself awoken inside a large chamber. It is filled with many men. In the middle of them all sits a young girl, crying her eyes out. She turns to Morgo, and quietly says "Help me..."

Morgo then wakes. He jumps to his feet and shouts out "Tilindra! Quickly, I think I may know where the girl is!"

Kyrene turns around hearing the muffled thud of Morgo's fall. Anticipating a possible ambush, she readies her javelin to an attack position. Seeing him get up moments later and shouting that he knows where the child is, she is relieved that her companion is safe but wonders how he knows where she is.

"Maybe he follows the paths of the shamans and the spirits talk to him..." she wonders to herself. She trots back to the main group to hear what he has to say.

The path continues generally to the northeast then branches into several. The main one continues on, but there are a number of other offshoots. All around you, the forest seems to swallow up the trampled areas within just a few feet, except for the one that you were following. There are no signs at all that might have been left by the girl, if she were able to leave them.

The forest is coming alive with sounds. There's a cacophony of insect sounds that have picked up now that the sun is warming the area.

From what you remember, the forest is not large. In fact, if it were a different kingdom, the area would not even be thought of as a forest, perhaps more a 'wood'.

Tilindra has spent the past while musing on the song she was given, with half an ear out for trouble. She knows little of tracking or woodlands, and everyone seemed too distracted to listen to her stories. She is currently mumbling to herself. Now I wonder, she said she got it from a book so it rules out that, that, and that language. It might be a poem, but there are few races that will waste parchment on writing of that kind. Ususally the only words you hear of being written down are spells, but I don't see how she would have got hold of that. I must read through it again tonight, and try and stay awake this time..."

At Morgo's words, she turns around with a start, hand half going for her dirk. "What was that? You've seen the girl?"

She looks around the woods, noting where they are. "It looks to me that the bandits are beyond these woods. These paths seem too well trod for them to be hiding in here."

Kyrene looks around at the group. "I can check the side paths to see if there has been any recent activity on them. Maybe we'll find something useful. To make sure I don't run into an ambush or what not, I'll check the paths for about 50 yards down and come back to this central point before going to the next. If I don't come back in say ten minutes, you may want to check that I'm okay - but come quietly. If you hear me shout, then assume I'm in trouble."

She picks the first path to her left and moves quietly down it, with her javelin ready.

Kyrene is back quickly from her check of the path. This one seems to be a simple game trail, as there are no signs of shod feet anywhere. There are four other sidetrails to investigate, one more ahead to the left, and three to the right. On cursory examination, any of them are likely suspects.

Tilindra's thought patterns on the parchment seem to be getting her nowhere, until it suddenly strikes her that if it is a spell, the answer may lie in the tonal sounds rather than the printed word. As such, an actual discovery of what language it is written in, translation back to that language, and a lesson in pronounciation might be required for it to work properly.
