collisions 3ds max

Recommended Posts

I`m looking for more info about collision objects and will appreciate any help. I know how to make simple static collisions..But recently I tried to create water and animated static collisions and though it partly worked, but not in a way the vanilla objects do.

The animated static object I made works properly, but makes no sounds at all (when falling down or on hit). I think I selected "generic" material. But I need the material that is used for the basketball or kickball and I don`t know how to obtain the name if it`s possible at all.

I`d also like to know what settings to use for water collision to make it work as the vanilla water collision.

Seems like no one knows this.

I have not found a fix yet but maybe this info can help somebody:

cloth cushion collision for static objects can be used to create a roof that is considered as a shelter

dirt - creates a collision that allows to place plants

stone heavy - works perfectly for stone foundations

Ok, the rubber material problem is solved. I have figured it out myself.

In case someone wants to use custom game materials for their custom collisions , you need to find the material file (MATT) in the CK .For example if you type in the CK "Rubber", there will be a few MATT files there: Rubber Tire, Rubber Ball etc. Select and open the one that fits your purpose and copy the material name. In 3ds max (collision group) check "custom material" and paste the name.

Have not found how to create water collision yet.

Making a small update for myself and possibly other people who are looking for the same info.

I have noticed some interesting things:

1) For Static collisions options like 'mesh', 'box', 'convex hull' and other shapes seem to work fine.

2) For Anim Static collisions the 'mesh' option can make them act like static, the 'box' option can lead to a weird bug with dissapearing on drop and reappearing somewhere else. The 'Convex hull' option seems to work fine but have not tested on the long run.

Edit. Just a note about water collisions. I figured out how to create water planes with limited depth. The collision (a box with desired height placed under your water plane) should be water material, object type should be water, material(texture) should be Beth water material. Can`t remember the name, but there is only one such material. In the collision group window (under the object type) the 'phantom' and 'shape' checkboxes must be checked. Object should be set to convex hull type.

If you read this and don`t understand what I`m talking about, I was using Stuyk's tutorial for static collisions to learn how to make them. I just wanted to figure out how to make other collisions.
