brokenmirror
I know what you're going to say - read a tutorial! Learn like that! - but I want to start off by explaining I don't learn well like that. I learn well by poking my way around in circles to go where I want until finally something clicks, and reading bits and pieces of random tutorials to help me. Unfortunately, that kind of requires knowing at least where to begin... which is why I'm here. What I want to create is adoption - I want to allow the dragonborn to go to, say, the orphanage in ...I think it's Riften? but it might not be... and adopt a kid. It'll either be a choice - enter a room and talk to all these kids and see which one you'd like most - hell, maybe one or two can have a quest associated with them. Maybe one isn't an orphan and still believes its mommy or daddy will come back for it! Once you adopt the kid, it'll live in your home, greet you when you come home ("Welcome home, mom!" "Welcome home, dad!") and ask for an allowance or something so it can use up all your hand-earned gold buying sweets from Ysolda. Um. I digress. Basically, I just... want an idea of where to start. Some sort of recommendation to a tutorial that would set me on the right path, for example, would be nice, as would a vague idea as to what this will entail - voice actors, obviously, and scripting? I'm assuming scripting will be involved. What else? And where should I begin? I know it's a lot to ask, but I'm not asking for a step-by-step guide. Just... a little assistance. Please? Thank you in advance.
Flammenwerfer35
Go into the orphanage, open the console and get each child's ID by left clicking on them. Then, in the CKit, try looking at how follower NPCs are set up and reverse engineer that to attach it to specific children. Then consider editing the marriage component to get them to live in your house and such, or just edit their home to be your favorite property once you adopt them. Beyond that, consider looking into any existing adoption mods (idk if there are any, but there may be) and see what the person did in the files; they might be able to answer some of your questions as well (just be sure to credit them).
