zakezk
Hello guys, i using NMM to install mods in my skyrim with latest update(version 1.4.x), i'm interested in several mods, but have some questions: - Like Minecraft, could have mods that will not work in a completely updated skyrim or unlike, all mods will work in any version of skyrim ?- I see that have more than one mod in the same category and with the same purpose, e.g:midas magic and phenderix magic evolved, several mods that increase smithing recipes, so my doubt is:i can use more than one mod in the same category and with the same purpose together without problem ?- Any mod in the nexus site can be downloaded/installed by the NMM with no problem ? (i know some mods dont have manager option, but in this case i can download them by the browser and install by the NMM) Somebody can help me please ? Can't comment on mods working with various versions of skyrim, or the question regarding nmm - l dont use it, but for your 2nd question, using mods multiple mods with the same purpose is probably likely to cause conflicts. I can't be specific - have only tried Midas Magic - but a lot of the mods change the same features, so you'd find one mod over-riding another. Your best bet is to pick the one that suits you the most, or disable one if you want to try another. Hope that helps, a bit at least.
kromey
Regarding mods conflicting, it's a lot more complex than that. It's quite possible that you could have a dozen different magic mods that each add dozens of different spells (a la Midas), and have not one conflict among them. This is because assets created by mods are guaranteed to have unique FormIDs, and therefore will never clash with one another.* However, when you start getting into mods that change vanilla assets and game settings, now you start running into the possibility of conflicts. Skyrim usually handles these pretty gracefully though -- most of the time, when mods conflict with one another, the last mod loaded that modifies the conflicted value will simply override the others. It's rare to have mod conflicts cause game-breaking problems, although they could cause the mods themselves to behave unexpectedly. A good rule of thumb is to always back up your saves when loading a new mod (or several new mods), and test the new functionality before you decide to actually use it -- even if it doesn't break anything, sometimes you just decide that what sounded good in the description just plain blows in the game. EDIT: *I should point out that in the early days of Skyrim modding, a common piece of advice was for mod makers to create FormIDs that did not conflict with Skyrim vanilla assets, but nonetheless were treated by the game as vanilla assets -- that is, they were not guaranteed to be unique. This advice has fallen out of favor now that we better understand how the game functions with the leading byte of the FormID (i.e. automatically re-numbering it based on load order), however it's quite possible that some modders are still incorrectly following this old advice.
