Staind716
Just to let people who think they are actually buying games from Steam know what they are actually buying. From Steam's download agreement "... a limited, terminable, non-exclusive license and right to use the Software for your personal use in accordance with this Agreement and the Subscription Terms. The Software is licensed, not sold. Your license confers no title or ownership in the Software." So in their own words they are telling you that you are NOT buying the game. You are buying a license to use the game. And if they decide to cancel your license for any reason you will not be reimbursed. This is one of the many reasons I make the trip to the store to buy the hard copy. I actually own my game. Do you? Just a little heads up for those who thought they were actually buying a copy of a game that belongs to them when they spend their hard earned money on it. Now maybe that 30 minute trip to the game store doesn't sound so bad huh? Edited February 16, 2012 by Staind716
Sader325
I don't actually care now. And in 10 years I'll care a whole lot less. And if 20 years from now I feel like playing skyrim, I'll get it for $0.50 in a bargain bin.

Staind716
I have a feeling the OP has a pirated copy of Skyrim.I have never pirated a game in my life. I resent the hell out of that comment. I make plenty of money to buy the things that I want. I just thought it was interesting that they have the legal right to canel your license to the game that you bought. Should have known better than to post this on the forums. Sometimes I forget people can't seem to have an adult conversation on here without being insulting and ignorant. It was meant as a comment about how even a lot of our purchases now are vitual and in the end we still don't really own them. That's why I always go to the store and buy a hard copy so I at least have something in hand to show for my money.

Of course I use Steam not just for Skyrim but other games also. I was just commenting about how when you make a virtual purchase you don't have anything physical to show for your money. Do I really think Steam is going to take everyone's games? Of course not, I just thought it was interesting that they have the right to if they so choose. Maybe at the end if they ever cancelled Steam support for Skyrim I would not have anything more than a disc and box. At least I would have something anyway. And the pirating crack was just a low blow. First of all, if I were a pirate I wouldn't bother coming to Nexus anyway because from what I understand they can't mod their games and rightly so. If you stole the game play it how it is and I hope a virus infects your pc and it explodes. And why would I bother making the comment that at least when you go to the store you have the hard copy. I stood in line for an hour on 11-11-11 to pick up mine and my son's pre-PAID copies so that crap just really pisses me off. Maybe I should have been more specific in my original post about the idea that our virtual purchases are not for the actual product but merely for a license. I thought it was an interesting symptom of the times we live in. Instead I get more crap than I have the energy to deal with anymore. Screw it. And I happen to like my pretty little map and box so lighten up. Edited February 16, 2012 by Staind716
thesapien
Well, you got a taste of the Nexus piratehunt. It's a small town, here. I do and don't agree with your point. I mean, I get it. However, two things. One, it's just a game. I'm not really that concerned over my rights to playing this game. Fifty bucks is nearly two silver ounces, so I'd still be kind of pissed maybe if I were still into playing it at the time. But it wouldn't give me pause at the time of purchase. Two, I never fully trust anyone I don't know and am doing business with, no matter written contracts. In today's corrupt system of my country, it's actually legal for congress and the courts to change laws retroactively. My courts are a bad joke. Plus, what DO you legally own when you "buy" a game? It's still Beth's game. You just have a copy that only you are permitted to use. How much can you really ever own someone else's copied righted art? I have been purchasing and playing games since Pong and Atari 2600 so this whole idea of a company having the right to not let me play my game that I paid for just makes me a little uncomfortable. At least when you are not required to go through their servers to play they don't have any power over your purchase, not that I think they would actually take those rights away. It's just the idea of the whole thing that bugs me.
