DuSable
Well of course the obvious thing is take it to a merchant and spend it, however most vendors don't always have what you want and lack the caps for a full conversion. So why not have more fun ideas of what you can do with all that gold? I mentioned this one idea in my topic "Sierra Madre: Probable Gear" where one can substitute gold bars for lead at a reloading bench to make "24 Karat Ammo" versions of any round you can put in a gun. Other than ammo being weightless, and turning this into the most expensive pull of the trigger you can imagine they could even come with a built-in Perk-effect, like Bloody Mess. Maybe a new Perk could be invented called "the Devil's Bullets" where they have an increased Critical Hit modifier. Another idea would require that you haven't completed the Quest "Pressing Matters" given to you by Alice McLafferty at the Crimson Caravan. Take the Gold bars to The Sunset Sasparilla Headquarters, head to the shipping area and use the Bottlecap Press to make Solid Gold Bottlecaps. Introducing a new currency to the wastelands that the locals accept rather easily. After all, they already accept Caps more readily than NCR dollars. Why not a Cap made of gold (and thus too expensive for forgers to create) that's worth multiple caps. Maybe 50 Gold Caps to the standard Cap? The G.P. could become a new Economic staple among those who wish to carry a lot of currency but don't want to carry a LOT of caps. Final thought... a melee weapon. The Goldbricker. This involves taking one Gold brick + one rake (or shovel, sledgehammer or broom) and one wonderglue to a workbench. In moments you have a long sturdy handle with a rectangular weight of 35 on the end. A rather heafty sledgehammer that maybe because it carries an extra 'something' from the Sierra Madre, does additional damage to 'Augmented Humans' like Ghouls, Super Mutants, Lobotomites and Ghost People. TrooperScooperMKII
Gold is really only "useful" for conductivity and resistance to corrosion. The former property gives it rather interesting applications; for instance, transparently thin and placed inside aircraft cockpit windows; passing electricity through it creates enough heat (from electrical resistance) to keep ice from forming. Gribbleshnibit8
I like the bullets thing. Shouldn't even be too hard to do really. Would be some super expensive bullets though. Also nevermind the fact that gold in 24 karat form would (I think) be far too soft to fire from a gun. But who cares, this is Fallout! Where people turn into zombies from radiation, and a virus can mutate you in a matter of hours! Laws of physics be darned, we want gold bullets NOW!! On a probably unrelated note, I now want to make a mod to do just what you said, and in fact will look into it right this moment.
adman85
How bout a plasma gun that superheats the gold and fires molten globs at enemies? And yes I agree that this IS fallout. You know, the place where fire causes 1 damage per second instead of inflicting 3rd degree burns.

Well then perhaps it can be used for Weapons Mods and Armor Mods as well? 24 K Laser weapons and 24 K Plasma Weapons could visually look like they're gold Plated. The in-game effect of the gold replacing the circuts could mean you use maybe 50% less energy from your power cells. With a 24 K Armor Mod you could put a thin coating of gold on any armor and not only totally Bling yourself out but decrease Laser and Plasma Damage as if you had the "In Shining Armor" perk.Heheh... Imagine entering the Brotherhood Bunker wearing 24K Power Armor

Gribbleshnibit8
Well I've started on a version. So far I've gotten to the fact that gold ammo should weigh significantly more than the regular, should be worth more (because of the gold bullet), but also does only 25% damage, and causes more wear to the weapon, due to the softer gold rubbing off on the inside of the barrel. The plus side to gold ammo is that it will do a calculated 200% (subject to change) crit damage with a 50% higher chance to get the crit. This damage will be based on a script running on the ammo, and calculated at time of impact based on player stats (so giving it to companions would calculate on your stats). For energy ammo, we'll assume that you're modifying the internal storage of the ammo, or maybe plating the contacts in gold, so not as much weight increase since energy ammo weighs a lot anyway. The plus side in energy ammo is that it will increase weapon damage due to more efficient transfer of energy. I think we'll assume the player is modifying the internals of the cell, so we can give a 150% damage increase, probably with some DT bypass. All gold ammo returns a significantly greater percentage of casing/depleted compared to normal ammo. We'll chalk it up to the gold being lucky or something. TrooperScooperMKII
I like the thought of using gold for energy weapons/power armor, but gold bullets... even for fallout, that's odd.Why not have an electroplated heat sword? Heck, it could even get into a glass/composite? "lightsaber" thingy, and the molten plasma thing sounds cool, too. What about a gold electro-bomb? IE electrified gold shrapnel. kevkiev
I'd really like a display case that operates like a weapons wall i.e. you just dump the load o' gold into it and it sorts it into a nice display. Probably best suited as a modder's resource so you could place it into the housing mod of your choice. (Or housing mod authors could include it in their esp.) Perhaps in both a clean and a worn version depending on the type of house in which your char dwells. I have no idea if that's possible or how difficult it would be to make. DuSable
Concidering the amount of gold bars you can carry from the Sierra Madre are limited another alternate source for them could be the "Searchlight East Gold Mine" and the "Searchlight North Gold Mine" If you had a way of tapping into the "Wait" or "Sleep" kind of timers then you could have "How many hours of mining do you wish to do today?". As the timer goes down you hear the sounds of rock crumbling and a pick working the stone. At the end of the time maybe it's your survival percentage that dictates how much ore you've dug up. Then you take it to a Bench to smelt it into Bars with your Repair skill. Gotta admit I'm liking some of the ideas here. *Chuckle* I can't help but imagine having a full set of Faction armors that's been 24K Modded. Legion, NCR, Brotherhood, Kahn just to name a few. Heck... I'd LOVE to see a 24K modded White Glove society Tux with Top hat and Cane. A silly thought but cool as hell.
