The burning house looked to me like a calling of the DB gone wrong. Circle of candles with a burnt corpse kneeling next to it. Would've been much better with a burned book nearby

The corpse should hold a Summon Flame Atronach scroll or some kind of fire spell scroll in it's hand. But maybe there are several houses on fire...

I think you'll find a number of situations like this scattered about Skyrim, very few with any clues as to what happened. There's what appears to be a burned out campsite somewhere along the northern shore that I came across in one my early playthroughs. I found a Flame Cloak Spell Tome in the exact center of the devastation. I had to laugh when I saw that, because the first thing I thought was that if the developer who put it there had really been thinking he would have made the tome a copy of J'zargo's notes on how to cast his own version of Flame Cloak, instead of the vanilla spell.:whistling:

Thats nothing, I've had time where I arrived in Riverwood straight from Helgen and Faendal's body is just lying in the street. Kinda funny when you also notice Sven walking away.....

Other times I've had deer run up and start trying to skewer me - when ordinarily they'd flee at first sight (not the green accursed one either).

Strange world we live in - Skyrim.

Sven and Faendal are rivals for Camilla's heart. They will apparently fight if they get near each other, and Sven should generally win this fight, although there are reports of Sven being found dead. This is unfortunate programming on the part of the developers, since Faendal is probably the best early follower you can get (if you side with him in their little love triangle) and can also train you in archery up to level 50. Sven is pretty much useless as a follower, so his loss isn't much of a problem (although I do like to listen to him sing in the Riverwood Inn).

Very shortly I came across a small house that was mostly burned down, but was still on fire. There was a charred corpse on the floor and a circle of candles in the corner of the room. I searched around for some kind of journal or note that might explain what happened, but found nothing. It might have been the dragon, but I don't recall seeing any other dragons burn down houses. Anyone know what happened here? (The house is not a discoverable location, so there is no map marker for it.)

I just found this today and was doing some googling to make sure it wasn't related to a quest I hadn't gotten the trigger for.

If you look, the charred corpse by the circle of candles is holding a scroll of summon flame autronach.
