malibu35072
Could somebody give me a rundown of how the texture maps interact in Skyrim? I understand diffuse is the color mapNormal map produce the bump effect, and the alpha channel in a normal functions as the specular map which causes areas with a higher value to throw back more light. But what are the maps listed as item_m.dds? It appears similar And how does this all factor in withe cube maps? My goal it work on some spiffy new weapons but before I get too far, I would like to understand better how the maps interact in Skyrim so I can make some nice materials for them. Thanks in advance guys. I'm not new to 3d, but I am new to the creation engine.
capitancrunch
I think they are for metal objects or something. Like a metalic reflection. Edited February 16, 2012 by capitancrunch
monkmidon
Yup, _m as metal would be my guess. I see it on all of the Dwemer textures... And some ice uses cubemaps. Not sure how they work, but I suppose it's what gives it that illusion of depth
