Ok, so i was wondering where I could find a guide to understanding all of the different programs required to model for skyrim mods. I dont care whether its blender or 3ds, I am completely lost. and i cant for the life of me find any guide to what i need to install. I have python and pyfii and when i try to install the blender addons, it says i need python or pyfii. Modding is easy, but I have no idea how to get started on modeling, and the resources for beginning are ridiculously scarce. If someone can just tell me how to get an nif into a 3d program. Maybe i just need to search a bit harder, but iv spent like 2 hours on google, and i think its time to resort to forum post... sorry if this is a stupid thread.

I use 3ds max and Nifskope. Basically, you put all the objects into your "scene" in 3ds max, then you export it as a .nif file. However, stuff gets messed up when you do that, so you have to altar some more stuff in Nifskope. I was in your situation only about 4 days ago, but I wanted to make armor meshes and stuff. What is it exactly you want to do?

This is the best place to go to download Blender and all its confusing parts: TES Nexus. Blender is free, and I hear that 3d max is rather pricey.

Here is a site with a whole page of modeling tutorials listed: Modeling Tutorials

Be sure to get NifSkope 1.1.0-RC5. Earlier versions will not work with Skyrim.

This is a good place to start for Skyrim modding Blender NIF Tutorial

Im not having much luck with the Blender 2.49b used in the tutorial myself, it just hangs up on my machine where as I can use the newer version Blender 2.62 with no trouble, would anyone know why that would be the case?
