KarthGalin
Use all three. Fire is great for dealing magicka-efficient direct damage against targets that aren't going to try to avoid the attack. Ice is excellent for slowing down melee attackers, fleeing opponents, any opponent that tries to dodge a lot (if you can hit them in the first place), and, with Ice Storm, you can aim a spell to just pass by an enemy's cover and he'll get hit by the spell without you needing Line of Sight. Lightning is great for damaging tough enemies; there aren't many resistant to it and it hits almost instantly so dodging doesn't help much, plus it drains those nasty enemy mages of their magicka. Chain Lightning is nice for hitting two opponents that are too widely-spaced for a Fireball to get them both.
jordanLoL
^ What he said. I would focus on either fire or lightning and change your strategy depending on the mobs you're facing. Ice can be very helpful to slow down melee attackers(at least for me). To be a successful pure mage in Skyrim requires you to use strategy and combine the magic schools. KarthGalin
Ice Storm is also the easiest way to kill those annoying Slaughterfish, I should add. :whistling:
ScrollTron1c
There's no reason to NOT go for both frost and lightning. Actually Ice Storm is so ridiculous OP, when i first dual-casted it on a bandit camp, it killed ALL of them including my follower. Also note that conjuration is mostly convenience while leveling up, by the point you have destruction + alteration + enchanting maxed and some key perks from restoration + alchemy, you can easily handle everything on your own and any kind of follower or summon will only slow you down. Regarding using all 3 types of damage - you have 8 quickslots, if you have already 6 of them only for damage spells, there's not enough room for all your buff/debuff/healing/racial etc. spells. TimF
Personally, I go with lighting first and with fire when I have free perk points. Cold sucks - Dragur, nords and many more are resistant to it, and frost spells are too indiscreet. Lightning - isn't the cheapest, but since you won't miss with it, still cost effective. Also, you can shoot airborne dragons with great precision. Almost noone is resistant to it, making it universal. Chain lightning is very handy AOE spell, and Lighting storm is the most useful master. Disintegrate perk effectively takes 15% off enemy health, making it the most and only useful advanced elemental perk. Fire - the cheapest and more damaging element. Handy of foes, most notably dragur and vampires, are weak to fire. Edited February 17, 2012 by TimF
