gingerbeardman13
First off, my apologies if I am duplicating an existing topic/question. I've poked around on different forums and confirmed that my root problem is not uncommon; however, none of the proposed solutions that people typically claim to work have been successful for me, and since all posts I have found are several years old I imagine something could have changed since then. Here goes: I'm running the GOTY Deluxe version of Oblivion on Steam with Win 7 (Bootcamped on a 2011 Macbook Pro...I know that's about as dumb of a gaming laptop/lack thereof as you can get but it's what I've got and it works for other games). The vanilla game runs and exits just fine, as it should. However, when using TesModManager (OBMM; which I guess inherently installs OBSE...?), and installing even just the Unofficial Oblivion/Shivering Isles/DLC patches, things immediately go south. The game seems to run fine. It's when I try to get it to cease running that the problem arises. No matter when or how I try and exit the game (or even the game's window it seems), the program "quits unexpectedly" and then stops responding. Normally I'd just ignore it until I started the game next; no big, I've dealt with programs that "close unexpectedly" when I exit them before. Except for the minor detail that Oblivion crashing on exit also likes to crash my entire OS every time. After far too many hard resets, I'd rather not keep revving my wheels in the mud trying to solve the issue with trial and error while my hard drive has an aneurysm. This has happened both with NMM and with TMM/OBMM, both before and after a complete uninstall and reinstall (two, actually). Tried the Fast Exit 2 mod and that didn't work either. Tried changing to a different program with keyboard shortcuts to then access task manager and manually shut Oblivion down. Still no dice - froze my OS nonetheless. At this point I don't know what crucial "holy grail" fix I've missed, but I just want to get Oblivion to work with mods, just well enough to install the unofficial patches plus a few extra graphical/UI tweaks (maybe even the Character Overhaul). Has anyone experienced this before? Is there a mod, plugin, or .ini tweak that I've missed and need to take care of? Any help would be so greatly appreciated. EDIT: Also, I am aware of the pinned resources, such as "A Guide to preventing bugs and crashes in Oblivion," although I don't seem to have found anything entirely relevant. Said guide did mention a resource issue when leaving the window while Oblivion is still running, but I still have yet to find an explanation/fix for the crashes that occur when exiting the "proper" way via the menu. Fast Exit 2 alleges to fix this but, well...doesn't (assuming a problem on my end, not the mod author's).
