bobsonb
I am trying to use mod organizer to install mods for skyrim on a linux pc using Play On Linux and Wine. I have skyrim and mod organizer working, Generate FNIS for Users runs but I don't think it's working. It doesn't seem to even see the Skyrim game installation and does not read any mods or the game version number. I have tried running it both through mod organizer and also running as an executable with POL. The FNIS executable is in playonlinux's virtual drive/drivename/drive_c/program files/steam/steamapps/common/skyrim/data/tools and mod organizer is in playonlinux's virtual drive/drivename/drive_c/program files/mod organizer/ModOrganizer. If I have the GenerateFNISforUsers.exe in any other directory it gives me a message about having an illegal game copy and/or not being in the right installation folder. Here is what it says when it runs (either in ModOrganizer or as an executable with PlayOnLinux): >>: <<FNIS Behavior V6.3 6/5/2017 9:06:42 PMSkyrim: ??.?? - Generator: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\tools\GenerateFNISforUsers.exe : "SKELETON Arm Fix" ... ERROR(5): That's it. Nothing else. Here is the GenerateFNIS_LogFile.txt from ../skyrim/data/tools/temporary_logs/: 0 Start Debug>>: <<FNIS Behavior V6.3 6/5/2017 9:07:24 PMSkyrim: ??.?? - Generator: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\tools\GenerateFNISforUsers.exe : "SKELETON Arm Fix" ... ...Start Tempate: templates\defaultfemale_Template.txtMax RecIndex: 1000 ...Start Tempate: templates\defaultmale_Template.txtMax RecIndex: 1000 ERROR(5): Can anyone advise me how to get the generateFNIS program to work on Wine/PlayOnLinux? It looks like it's not seeing my game install or any mods. Running in ModOrganizer it does leave an overwrite file but it looks like it's just that log file. bobsonb
OK I found this topic: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/2110829-modding-skyrim-with-wine-playonlinux-in-linux-ubuntu/page-3 I'm surprised it worked but it still doesn't work. I downloaded the scrrun.dll from originaldll.com and move it to sys32, added the physx, dotnet40, msvc100, msxml6 components in the POL wine config. Got rid of Error(5). Now it says this when I run GenerateFNISforUsers.exe >>: <<FNIS Behavior V6.3 6/5/2017 11:19:15 PMSkyrim: ??.?? -Generator: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\tools\GenerateFNISforUsers.exe: "SKELETON Arm Fix"...0_master : 1.1 %Alternate Animation mods: 0 sets: 0 total groups: 0 added file slots: 0 alternate files: 01 . There is no log file this time so I can't see that. It did put a bunch more stuff in the overwrite file and seems to see some of the mods. Still not reading all of them though, and not reading the game version. FNIS animations are still not working in the game. ModOrganizer has an alert warning me the dotnet is out of date but I installed the latest version component that didn't throw error messages trying to install. Any help appreciated not sure what to try now that FNIS seems to be sorta working but still no animations. I don't think it's reading everything but I'm not sure. fore
Since you messed around the FNIS installation. The FNIS exe path is not Skyrim\Data\tools\GenerateFNISforUsers.exe. It has to be Skyrim\Data\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users\GenerateFNISforUsers.exe
bobsonb
OK when I first installed it, I think it was working right in the directory it came in but I'm not sure. That is in the /GenerateFNIS_for_Users/ directory. I moved the files out of that directory because I was getting a message about it not being a legitimate game copy or not being in the right install folder. I don't remember if it was always doing this or it just started at some point. Putting it in /tools/ made that go away. For the record it is a legitimate copy of the game I bought, originally installed by CD on an windows XP machine, and installed on my new linux machine in wine through the steam library. I will move it back later today and maybe try reinstalling it and see what happens.
fore
Why don't you just ignore the legit warning if FNIS otherwise works ok? I'm not trying to understand if and how FNIS can get the information it needs to determine proper installation under Linux. Registry in this case. bobsonb
Thank you! It's working. I appreciate your help, I would not have thought to move fnis back where it started. It wasn't working before the .dll switch and the component add ons, I thought that message might have been part of my problem and that moving it was getting me closer to having it work because it got rid of the message. But now that the scrrun.dll and the components have been added, all I had to do was move it back where it belonged and it's working.
