Grey interiors

Recommended Posts

I've just started a lightly modded play through of Fallout New Vegas (mostly a couple of utility mods - I will provide a list if useful) and I am having issues with grey interiors. When I am inside all of the buildings in Goodsprings, EVERYTHING is grey (not just walls, but NPCs and my character too). I assume this is something to do with the lighting in game. I've just got to Primm and the interior of the casino does have colour however so it's not universal. I don't know if this a mod causing the effect or the base game.

I have some experience with modding Skyrim but none with NV so I may have done something that has caused the error.

Looking at my mod list the main ones that could cause lighting issues are probably: Clarity - orange tint remover and NVInteriors project (although I installed this after to see if it would fix).

Anyone had this issue or know how to fix it?

Thanks.

Definitely not normal. NVInteriors only makes certain buildings in the Mojave "accessible" and provides those interiors. It is not really a "lighting" mod that would affect other buildings it doesn't touch. (Don't recall if it touches any in GoodSprings. Don't think so.) "Clarity" is a better possibility, yet there are no similar complaints in it's comments, except for one comment as follows:

So I've been playing with Clarity - Dark Nights. I do find that the nights are indeed realistically very dark, but some of the building interiors (Doc Mitchell's house; Mojave Outpost HQ & Barracks), even at mid-day, are far darker than I would expect for inhabited places. The mid-day outdoors also seems somewhat crepuscular even at high noon, and with monitor brightness turned all the way up to max. Is this expected behaviour?

Edit: I fixed it. Turns out the problem happens when I try to make a Bashed Patch (with Wrye Flash, via Mod Organizer) that includes Clarity. If I disable Clarity (uncheck its mod in the left pane of Mod Organizer) before I run Wrye Flash and its Rebuild Patch command, then re-enable Clarity (re-check in the left pane, and position its esp in the right) afterwards, then those interiors aren't dark anymore. Outside in broad daylight seems a bit brighter too.

If this does turn out to be the case, adding the "bash tag" of "nomerge" to the plugin may be all that is needed. Please let me know so I can add it to the "Troubleshooting" guide.

If it isn't that, you most likely have a sort problem with your load order, or a conflict. So, please post your "load order". OTOH, as you are "lightly modded" the most likely suggested solution will be to revert to vanilla, and re-install and test each mod one at a time anyway, so you might want to just try that first. Please see the 'Restoring to "Vanilla" ', 'Essentials for Getting Started', and 'Vanilla "Load Order" ' sections of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article.

Are you using a "post-processor" such as ENB or SweetFX? If so, it may be either a video configuration or "preset" issue. In which case, please see the 'Solutions to Post-Processor (ENB/SweetFX et. al.) problems' section in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide.

Dubious, thanks for the swift and detailed response!

I figured it could be something to do with the bashed patch. I just tried disabling it and re-enabling the mods themselves, interiors look perfect and the skies are far brighter. I'm going to rebuild the patch and I'll report back to see if that works.

Thanks again!
