sniperrat121
I'm try to get fallout 4 to work properly now for exact 2 Days with my Gsync widescreen monitor (ASUS PG348Q) on my High end Computer ASUS STRIX Gtx 1080ti I7-7770k 4.2GHZ and 32GB DDR4 Ram. You might think with this kind of Hardware it should be easy to play the game at least smooth on 60 FPS but believe me it's all except from easy, first issue : I couldn't get g sync to work friendly with the game and the fps cap on 60 (I would set my monitor to 100hz but I heard that could cause serious engine Problems also there's massive fps drops even on medium settings. In some locations I get up to 150fps and then it falls down to 55) so I let it on 60. At the moment when i set the correct ini settings (remove the fps cap) and remove v sync from my nvidia control panel for this application to get no input lag from v sync the tearing starts, worse than ever. I've tried several solutions like to cap the fps on 60 with the riva tuner or use the fps capper from enboost nothing worked. There are a lot of guide's and I've tried all of them but none of them was working. I must do something wrong at some point. I've removed everything from Fallout 4 now from my computer and start from scratch, but this time i want to do it right. Could someone tell me how to set Gsync with fallout 4 correctly? I mean everything, the correct ini setting the correct Hz rate on my monitor even the best settings on the nvdia control panel. Second really big issue was Micro Stutters. Even on my computer I get horrible Micro Stutters when entering a new area or when I get a little fps drop it felt like the game was freezing for a second. I've tried to use Shadow boost or set the shadows to medium god rays to low and shadow Quality to medium nothing worked. I saw a post where someone changed the Preloadsizelimit like in Fallout New Vegas to increase Performance, is there a guide or something? Any help would be great. English is not my native language so please excuse spelling mistakesThx for all Answers Edited June 8, 2017 by sniperrat121
Zzyxzz
Hello, Preloadsizelimit, you dont need to tweak that, set it to default.Fallout 4 is a pain in the *. I'm struggling with stutters and such since release. I did a lot of tests and researches on that case. I'm more or less a stutter master. There can be many reason why it stutters. There are also mods that can cause stutters, like RaiderOverhaul and Super Mutant Redux. They cause stutters, because they were made, when there was no creation kit. Even though they got "updated" the issue still persists. The problem are the NPC records, which can cause stutters. Do you use a mod that enables scrapping for new objects? Scrap Everything or any other mod like that? Those mods are also a cause of stuttering. There is an ini tweak that gets suggested with those mods: bUseCombinedObjects=0 This tweak will disable combined objects and will cause a really MAJOR performance impact. If you care about performance, never ever use it. In example, we have a house with 3 floors, it consists of lets say... 70 objects. With bUseCombinedObjects=0 the game has to load all 70 objects. If bUseCombinedObjects=1 the game only has to load only 10 objects and thus will cause less stutters / stress ur system much less. There are sneaky mod authors, that add a seperate ini file with their mod, that adds this line and you don't even know it. There is an easy way to check ingame, if bUseCombinedObjects=0 is active.Open your console and type: tpcIt will say something like: previs has been disabled.Type it again: tpcand i should say: "previs has been enabled."If you have bUseCombinedObjects=0 or the area itself has combined objects disabled, it will say: "previs has been enabled. But disabled for this cell." This means your system has to load much more stuff in this area than usual and causes stutters. You can also check mods with FO4Edit if a mod modifies the Worldspace. If a mod touches something that is part of a precombined mesh (will show up in FO4Edit as [placed object] . If it only reads placed object, without [ ] its fine.) it will disable combined objects for the whole cell. If you are playing in windowed borderless mode, this can also lead to stutters. Yes, its true. You'll notice stutters when your frames drop from 60 to 50. It will feel like you are playing with 20 fps. To fix that switch to Fullscreen mode. BUT in Fullscreen mode, you'll notice also stutters when strafing. This can be fixed in the following:Disable Fallout 4s V-Sync. Force V-Sync(G-Sync does not work very well with FO4, dont know why) with Nvidia's control panel. Set prerendered frames to 1. Get the latest version from ENBdev.com for Fallout 4 and force the framelimit with the ENB(Framelimit 60). (Capping frames with RivaTuner/NInspector will give you worse results)This will get rid of strafing stutters in Fullscreen and the Fullscreen itself will get rid of other stutters. That said, there is another issue, that you didnt point out, something you maybe also didnt notice. Foliage shimmering. It can also make the game feel stuttering. Its also easy to fix:Set Antialiasing - FXAA to "On"Set Antialiasing - Mode to "Enhance the application setting"Set Antialiasing - Setting to "4x"Make sure Fallouts 4 Antialiasing is set to TAA. You'll still experience some stutters here and there but mostly only in the boston city areas. Thats because of the shadows. They are a major impact. MightyZ0G
you didn't mention any thing about your hard drive.FO4 has many choke points and pulling data off the drive is one of themSSDs are much better than HDDs (although from the rest of your specs I am guessing you got a SSD or at least a hybrid)

An SSD can also get rid of stutters. I also bought one for that reason, but it won't resolve that issue completely. Microstutters can be caused by a lot... specially lag spikes are probably mod related.Try those things i wrote and if everything fails and you dont have an SSD, its recommended to buy one. I did the same. Fixes a lot of issues, specially the weapon switch bug and LOD textures.
