Ghosts of Vitharn keeps Crashing

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I just signed up for the forum so I'm new here  , anyway My oblivion game keeps crashing whenever I try talking to the Count (or anyone that might add a journal entry to the mission) after saving the archer (I forget her name) in Fort Vitharn. Anyone know any patches for this, or am I going to have to reinstall Shivering Isles?

Here's the error report if anyone needs it:

Ummm... *scratches head* I don't have an answer, but I do have a few thoughts:

Okay, well, first off, are you running any mods (if so, please post your load order)? Do you have the Unofficial Oblivion patches? I played the quest pure vanilla (non-modified, not even the official patches), and didn't encounter any crashing problems. Have you tried loading an earlier save and getting up to that point in the quest again?

Oh, and is your SI that direct2drive thing, or is it the PC-DVD version? Or is it from the GotY (Game of the Year edition)? I don't know if it makes a difference, but you never know!

Of course, SI doesn't run peachy for me. It will crash whenever I go through the Strange Door way -- and not a crash-to-desktop, it will freeze my computer so I have to restart. After restarting, it behaves itself. I can avoid the freezing if I press ctrl+alt+del at the loading screen; after that, when I load the game and go through the door, it behaves itself. Strangeness!
