Lemarchands configuration (Hellraisers puzzle box) Prop idea

Greetings, I have been eagerly waiting for the upcoming PILGRIM update. And one of the sneak peak pics shows some very familiar entities. From my perspective they resemble Cenobites pretty closely.

 

I think that a reproduction of Lemarchands puzzle box would go nicely with the update. My questions are:

1) Would it be easier to re tex an existing asset. Like a toy block. Or

2) Start from scratch, new mesh and texture.

 

I have blender, Ck, Nifskope, and gimp w/dds plugin.I have attempted to retex the toy block but my changes are not visible. Any suggestios or input would be greatly appreciated!
