No, see, my problem with the Creation Club isn't that it's a paywall...

Consider this: A game like Warframe is free-to-play, and has paywalls for their aesthetic content. I've so far paid $180 or so since I began playing it. And as they release more content, I tend to pay more. And I don't mind, because it's a FREE-TO-PLAY online game. The devs NEED some kind of income from it.

It's shady business, applying the free-to-play income model to the cases of Skyrim and Fallout 4... we pay for the base game, and then we pay for DLC... oftentimes containing content intentionally gutted from the base game for the sole purpose of creating incentive for a DLC. That's full-price.

It isn't WRONG for Bethesda to want to make money off their property as long as they can. It's a business after all. It isn't wrong either for talented modders to want to make a living doing what they love. But it doesn't change the fact that -- having paid full price for a game and its features -- the community expects and deserves those features.

To draw a parallel: Overwatch is a paid game that releases all future characters for free.

Free-to-play games NEED a constant stream of income, and paid games don't. And while we won't be losing mods that we already have, I believe the fear is that modders with mod skill levels of Zerofrost and the likes who join the club will be more preoccupied with making a living out of their mods than supporting in-demand mods they AREN'T paid for. We can't blame them for that, but obviously... while we won't be losing mods to the paywall, we'll definitely be losing modders.

Maybe we'll see the Beyond Skyrim project or others like it get finished with much more content and worldspace comparable to Vanilla itself.

If you're paid to make DLC-sized mods, you're going to put more quality into it. I can see small companies being created as a result of this.

Yeah, and THERE'S another fear on the back of some people's minds too, though...

WIP mods like SkyBlivion, SkyWind, and Beyond Skyrim? They're technically unreleased, and therefore, can be postponed by their dev teams if these teams want to join the club.

Like I said, what scares people is the fact that while we won't lose preexisting mods, we run the risk of losing the most talented modders to a paywall. Do they deserve pay for their work? Absolutely... which makes it even more likely that we won't be seeing their works released for free on Nexus again... thus adding fuel to that fear.

Is there currently a mod that you would pay for more than dawnguard/dragon born

For me the answer is no. These mods for se are nice and there are a few that a excellent but theres not 1 I would pay dlc prices for

Its actually sad that Bethesda hasn't worked out a solution to SKSE . At this point they should have developed their own version

Fallout 4 I would throw into the same boat

Beth should have said the next tes or big game will get the support it deserves not old games

I'd pay for Enderal. I'd pay for Clockwork. I'd also pay for the Beyond Skyrim project.

Beth don't want SKSE.

SKSE gives to much freedom.

That won't fit in their policy.

This whole thing makes me a wee bit skitish. I by no means am against supporting mod authors, hell I bought a couple mods, from some of the more popular mod authors here. Not going to mention names, for obvious reasons.

What makes me nervous, is Beth hiding what exactly is the mod author being signed up for. Then there is how they announced it. Mud crab armor. Seriously, did Bethesda not get the memo about horse armor being a bad thing? I don't buy that being an inside joke, because their entire presentation was fairly tone deaf about what people want.

The only plus side, is the curation, making sure the mod works with everything. That sounds great. But also fairly pointless if its just going to be weapon/armor mods. Oh and crab armor.

+1 Absolutely! These are just a few of the top knotch quality mods that have come from very talented modders. Some of these take years to make as well.
