wuagmeister
Hi, I recently downloaded the Deadly Reflexes mod, and I'm having a problem, but I don't think its just the mod, but my Oblivion. Other mods shave shown me what this, but I haven't reported it until now. Here is a video of throat slitting: http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/3/27/932...13-20-12-46.avi (Its Hi-Def, sorry for the file size). Normally, the person is covered in blood, but, alas, you can see what happens. Here's a picture of decapitation: http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/3/27/932...13-11-21-56.bmp On occasion, when I get wet or put on an enchanted item, the same happens to me, but with white: http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/3/27/932...13-14-27-54.bmp (Sorry, wouldn't let me upload with [/img], so, gotta copy links.) My system specs are:Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz (2 CPUs)Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB (AGP)1.5GB of RAM I know, its kind of old, but it runs Oblivion looking great, as well as Hitman: Blood Money, and Team Fortress 2.Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if its just a, "Get a new video card!" thing. Well, because I am soon, probably within a month.
wuagmeister
Once again, getting a new video card soon. I should be able to fit in another 512MB of RAM, but I think my problem is my video card. I have my eyes on a Radeon X1600 Pro 512MB AGP 8x, so, I should be able to run a lot of games that I've been looking forward to for a long time (Rainbow Six: Vegas 1&2, Neverwinter Nights 2, Assassin's Creed, Gears of War, Unreal Tournament 3). I'm a PC gamer, and the only next-gen console I have is the Wii, so, I'm buffing my computer.
Tamujiin
well all those games need alot of ram try to get 3gb-4gb ram. Also try and get the best AGP graphics card out there. All that at the very most will cost you 400 dollars. Try to stay ahead if you upgrade. I feel if i by these games i must have something worthy of playing them with. Good luck! Then again if you can afford it , Buy a new computer built for gaming.
Vagrant0
It's a shader issue. older videocards don't know how to show them very well, so errors like this happen. The smaller memory size just makes them even more limited. If it bothers you that much, you might just want to refrain from using Deadly reflexes and anything similar (get wet) which makes use of shaders for their effects. There should also be a mod somewhere that disables the enchantment shaders. Yes, it might sound like I'm asking you to do without some of the more "fun" mods, but given your hardware setup, I'm suprised that you can even run the game, let alone at a decent speed. You should probably see about getting the best AGP card you can afford, and see how much ram your motherboard can support. If your motherboard can't support more than 2gb, or is using an older memory standard, you may be best off on putting up with things as they are until you can afford a whole new computer. wuagmeister
My Motherboard can hold up to 4 GB of RAM, but I didn't think RAM was actually of the utmost importance, I thought my issue was my VRAM, I'm still a minor, so, I'm making money from doing chores and odd job and the such, I'm gonna be getting a job this summer, so, hopefully I should be doing a good amount of upgrades. My dad told me that 3GB of RAM was overkill, and that I'd probably never need more than 2, because the average game runs only using half a gig of RAM, at least from my experience with any game I can run. Even with Gears of War, I put it on its highest settings, ran very choppy, but when I brought up task manager, it said it was only using half a gig. I don't run hardly any programs in the background, except for Steam, but I use that for its In-Game chat. The minimum for Assassin's Creed is 1 GB, so, I should be fine, if I really notice some choppiness I'll upgrade to 2, but I already have filled up all my RAM slots. It has 4 slots, and it came with two 256MB sticks, I think thats pretty crappy for an Alienware. Its only about 4 years old, but so far its ran great. Its just that most of these next-gen games are kicking it around. That 512MB AGP X1600 is gonna be my final decision, because its cheap and has a lot of VRAM, plus all the features I need. Oh, right, I think I forgot to mention I use Windows XP SP2, not Vista. I dislike Vista at this point, and please don't argue that point. Thanks for the suggestions, and tell me if the XP changes your upgrade suggestions.
Tamujiin
A vid card isn't OS dependent at least between windows and vista. So if you have an AGP slot go for it. Also if you can get your computer up to at least 1.5gb ram that would be good. But, if you can get three that would be best. Here is what i learned from computers. If you buy it brand new it is already 6 months-1year out of date. Your's is 4 years old. Right during dells hayday of making crappy alienware computers. ( no offense, your computer might be great.) but as some advice when you buy games dont look at the minimum requirments. Look at the Recommended requirments. Try to keep your computer at that level. And yeah i know your still a minor, but good luck, thats my way of keeping on top of things. You can get computer parts from a used computer place ( or as i like to call em scrap heap ) just make sure you read and really know, and i mean REALLY know what your buying before you give your money away. Or do a little at a time, buy this time next year you could have a really good computer. Just in time for whatever comes out then. From my experiance my computer is almost 2 years old, and next year i probably wont b able to play the "really good games without a bunch of lag and stuff, i i dont get more ram andupgrade my video card. ( and maybe upgrade from Vista to XP.)
