When Autumn Comes

My legs and feet hurt, it pains me to walk, and so I am sitting most of the time as of right now (and yes, I'm going to see the doctor). While in a chair for a while, I wrote this off the top of my head (over the period of two days). Enjoy.

The warmth moves right on past the land

And autumn's nip now grips the trees

As they form their rustling band

And waver gently in the breeze.

But merriment enjoy's scarce time

As icy snaps devour some

And evergreens do mourn their kind

As they obey the frosty hum.

Throughout the days, they wither down

And their green dons sensual dyes

That flicker in dusk's solemn frown

To hug and kiss the human eyes.

And finally, the air endows

A tree with cycles ran each year

And the pillar's brooding boughs

Shed at last, a cherry tear.

The others go to chase their friend

And leave their homes to overlay

The rocky ground so they can send

A message cheerful, blithe, and gay.

Through prodding gusts, the leafy sprites,

Rainbowed with such vibrant skins,

Tumble down through addled lights

To their lowly, earthen ends.

And as they land, they newly craft

A crispy carpet some like to tread

That's scattered 'round by the Fall's draft

Leaving stragglers in its stead.

And so the earth bequeaths her prayer,

Curls up, and bids the winter show

And when it leaves, spring makes her fair

As brisk rains spawn floral glow.
