Beginner mission/Tutorial Dungeon messed up...

Hello,

 

I had some problems sorting out my mods yesterday but I finished doing that anyway. So I started playing, but the first mission, escaping helgen, was bugged. the entire dungeon was messed up, lights removed, objects removed, and the entire end was removed, So I couldnt even get out.

 

So I made a quick safe in the dungeon, I quitted the game and unticked 50% of my mods. When I loaded my safe the "This saves relies on content that is no longer availeble" message was displayed. I loaded anyway and the dungeon looked fine.

 

So I started enabling all mods wich dont change the map at all. I ended up with only "Westbrook Keep"....

 

The anoying part is, I also just to find out, reticked that mod (enabling 100% of my mods once again (Same quicksave)) and it was STILL normal. Not messed up.

 

I feel unsafe starting to play now... Does anyone know what this is caused by and what to do about it? should I just start playing?

Well, for the mods, you really should get some sorting software, where the most obvious choice would be NMM (for manual) and BOSS (for automatic sorting). I do not believe Steam actully has any idea about load order and that Data Files are not very good choice either since you can't really sort anything in there. Load order is actually pretty important tho.

 

As for the screens, not quite sure which mod could cause it. But then again, who knows how Steam does things and what might get killed in the install process.

 

And you surely can play, I'd just recommend to make a lot of manual separate saves along the way, so you can always just go back to one of those if something goes wrong. But hey, that actually aplies even if you don't have any problems, with Beth games :P

Any mod that alters a worldspace which holds a quest item (the key to that gate in this case) but doesn't included a copied reference to the persistent container/NPC that holds said quest item will cause the quest item to become unavailable. This issue is new to Skyrim. Darker Dungeons caused a stir a month or so ago because it breaks a very large number of quests due to this issue. Another example is mods that alter Breezehome. Anything that alters the Whiterun house, but doesn't include a copied reference to Lydia will cause her to disappear.

 

I'm not really sure which mod in your list caused this issue, but, if you're plugin savvy, you could go through them and find whatever mod edits the Helgen Keep worldspace.

 

Edit: Also, I second the post on NMM and BOSS. Load order can be very important.

Okay I figured it out. I was having the same problem. I checked which mods we both had and it ended up being Sea Breeze Estate. I don't know what about this mod messes up Helgen Keep but I know it is this mod for sure. I unchecked all the mods that we both had in the Skyrim data files then loaded a saved game right BEFORE entering Helgen Keep. I stress the word before because if I saved in the keep when it was already loaded correctly, it would still load and look fine with the Sea Breeze Estate mod checked. I then just kept loading that saved game with one new mod checked every time and it finally messed up when i got to the Sea Breeze Estate mod. It's a shame because this house looked really cool but oh well. I'm going to inform the developer of the mod shortly and hopefully it will get fixed. Hopes this helps!

Hey, I was having the same issue, with entire portions of the Helgen Keep (siding with Imperials) not loading or just leading to a void.

 

I do not use Sea Breeze Estate! :(

I'm having this problem, but I'm not using Sea Breeze Estate. I'll try and isolate the mod that's doing it, and report back.

 

Edit: Alright, I disabled two mods I thought might be the culprits: Nchuzzrezar (Dwemer home mod), and the Perfect Legionnaire imperial armor mod (gladius replaces imperial sword esp). Loaded up the same save inside the keep and everything seems fine. Closed down, reactivated both mods, and everything loaded up again. Turns out I made that edit before I was really sure. The level loaded just fine, but the scripting was still broken. Deactivating the mods didn't fix it, but since the dungeon was loaded I was actually able to get to the end and just leave, completing the quest and bypassing the bugs.

 

Hope this helps people with this bug/conflict in the future. From the looks of this thread it looks like some player home mods are the problem.

Well i'm having a huge bug issue and not sure which mod it is....

 

I had the alternate start as i thought that was causing the issue... ininstalled it as i couldn't even START to investigate helgan, any time i left riverwood and was near helgan, skyrim would either freeze, or just crash to desktop.

I uninstalled Alternate start, started a new game but when i go inside the helgan keep, nothing loads, only the entrance room and the rest is just a void. Still trying to figure out which mod it is, i have a feeling it's one of the estate mods, as i just downloaded a few of them to add diversity in the housing department.

 

 

FOUND THE CULPRIT! well for me anyways... Alternate start for some reason, won't load.... As soon as I get within "loading" range of the burnt body, it just freezes or crashes... so trying to figure out now, which mod is making Alternate start mod crash....
