hardbrocklife
I've modded Beth games in the past, but the modding has always been pretty light. Im learning more as I go and doing as reading and searching as possible, but I have a question. With a mod like War Of The Commonwealth, which seems to dramatically alter vanilla spawning and group dynamics, would there be any sort of expected clash with a mod that was to change or alter enemy NPCs in either their look or base stats? Like if I was install an enemy NPC mod like Better Looking Enemies, would that be likely to clash with WOTC? Does skinning or mesh mods inherently interfere with a mods that changes game mechanics or dynamics like WOTC? I think my question makes sense... hardbrocklife
Are there any basic concepts to keep in mind when installing mods as far as incompatibility?
DoctorKaizeld
yeah pretty simple: do they do the same thing? if yes then they will conflict if no your good. really the main reason certain mods conflict for apparently no reason is because they change something that the other needs. like placing a rifle a table in sanctuary, if another mod places another rifle on the same table then there will probably be a conflict caused be the two items being placed into each other. though in this case it tends to just cause them to fly across the room or something. typically if you just read the description page for mods they will list any known mods that cause issues or will list things that might conflict. also NMM will mention when a mod will overwrite another in some cases as well. so word of advice, avoid redundancy when modding and most conflicts will be fine. in the case of the mods you are mentioning one of them changes spawns while the others are cosmetic or stat based these three things dont affect each other directly so the mods can be used together. though i should point out the spawn changing and stat changing mods will affect gameplay in a potentially harmful way but nothing that cant be fixed through a simple uninstall. hardbrocklife
I understand. While I'm here, riddle me this. I downloaded the Heather Casdin companion mod. I understand that it uses a valkyr face texture and a cbbe body texture. Load her up and her head is very tan and body very white. Defined line around around the base of her neck. With my finite knowledge, I theorized that maybe copying the meshes and textures from the CBBE folder into the mesh and textures folders for the companion would possibly fix something. Also, half my options in looks menu cannot be applied to Heather. Ive spent a few hours trying to find a work around for both of those. Heather doesn't use the valkyr face textures, but the images Elianora kindly took for me do use it. By default Heather's face uses vanilla textures. I suggest you go to Heather's thread for further help. Players successfully change her looks all the time.
hardbrocklife
Reply from the mod creator!? Thank you very much for the information. Btw, Heather's mechanics are legit. Its the only reason I'm willing to do all the work to figure out how to get the textures to mesh(see what I did there?;) ). Thank you for the awesome mod! SMB92
WOTC doesn't really alter vanilla NPCs wo you can use whatever mods you like to enhance it. You do have to worry about some functionality in the mod being a bit broken and outdated these days but it is definitely very usable. When I finish building the new one all of those problems will be solved.
hardbrocklife
I love WOTC too. Made combat exciting again. Also put my 1060 to the test lol. I can't FT to Boston and walk 10 steps without walking into a 3 or 4 way battle that was already raging. I love it. Thank you, and thanks for keeping it updated. Dropped a few $grand$ on school and State Board Testing(PTA student), but when I get my finances ironed out I'm going to go through my list of content creators that I want to donate to. You guys make this content for free, and even feel obligated to follow-up with it and keep it updated for us. That is worthy of a donation. SMB92
Thanks for the kind words but I won't accept money for my work, I am making it this mod as my "payment" for the use everybody in the communities mods, so to speak. It's my (massive) contribution :). That and I designed something truly ambitious and I want to see it come to fruit and play it myself ;)
