Scatterlung
I have an outline for a mod designed to flesh out the whole Vault aspect of the game. Its an ambitious idea, and while I don't have the technical skill to pull it off, I do have other resources I could contribute to the development of the mod. PremiseThe most basic idea for the mod is to develop the Vault elements by allowing players to build (a) Vault(s), and using them as massive player homes, with communities that need to be tended to in order to maintain their viability. Where this differs from regular settlements would be in maintaining Vault-specific systems and functions, by providing radiant quests that send The Overseer (player character) out into the Wasteland to scavenge for food, new ingredients, components, machinery, etc, turning the Wasteland into the last place you'd want to have to visit. Very simply: Turning the Fallout 4 game (and its Vault Tec Workshop DLC) into Fallout Shelter.Radiant Quests for Vault Maintenance/Development.Huge open space for creative Vault building. The means for sending out scavenging parties of Vault Dwellers with chances of success to return with items.Determining the suitability of Vault Dweller applicants.Access to Vault Tec experimental objects that can boost resource gain/other perks. StoryIdeally the mod would contain a story. I have ideas, and the skills to script and voice elements of the plot. Below are just some ideas. Alternate StartInstead of beginning the game in Sanctuary at the moment of the bombs dropping, you begin at the founding of the new Vault as its Overseer (perhaps with spouse and child) some time before the bombs. Its up to you to decide how to construct the Vault, what resources you'd like available to your dwellers (do you focus on work or leisure?). With the help of some NPCs, you get your Vault up and running just as the bombs drop. With only a small group of Vault Dwellers, you need to begin work on the various Vault experiments, culminating in the Vault's ultimate experiment: Cryogenics. When you're ready, you can head into the Cryo-Pod. Upon freezing yourself, you're flung two-hundred years into the future, with the story-line following the main game with a few minor tweaks. At this point, you meet the decedents of your dwellers and can continue your work maintaining the Vault. Being the OverseerIts your job now to make sure your dwellers are happy and healthy in the Vault. There may be a series of small quests that help unlock new items and resources for your dwellers that can boost happiness. Periodically, the Vault residence will give you quests for things that they need: It might be that the crops aren't coming in so good, and a quick infusion of fresh meat from the surface might be just what the Vault needs. Or perhaps the water-chip is on the fritz, and a replacement will need to be found at one of the nearby Vaults in the Commonwealth. Either way, you can either send a party up to the surface, though you may risk losing Dwellers, and perhaps not finding a good haul. Or you can take on the job yourself and be the hero the Vault needs. The Wasteland Survival GuideOne more thing I'd love to see is a series of quests designed to give Vault Dwellers some idea of what to expect above-ground (thus perhaps increasing their chances of successfully completing their assignments). Perhaps at the end of these quests, you're given a new Perk Magazine that gives you different bonuses depending on your input. Obviously just a big call-back to Moira in FO3. As I say, I haven't the technical skill to accomplish this, so it would likely need a dedicated modder. I don't expect much of this to be very easy to pull off, but I wanted to put this idea out there for anyone who might be interested in making it real. Thanks!
