xachan86
I didn't read your dxdiag, but if you have stuttering and lag, consider about installing mods such as Streamline 3.1, lowpolygrass and OPO (Oblivion Polygons Overhaul). The first one smoothes the use of your computer's memory by Oblivion, the second lowers the number of polygons in the grass (helps a lot and fully configurable if you use OBMM and the omod version), the third drastically lowers the numbers of polygons in rocks and other things without any loss of visual quality. Believe me, i use them all at the same time and it helps a lot ! But it would help if you could put here your computer's specs and also the main mods you're using. Tamujiin
According to your DXdiag you only have 510mb ram. If you notice on the Oblivion box it says 1gb ram is recommended. recommended means for Medium performance. It says 512 is the minumum system requirment. Minimum means it might run great on the lowest settings possible, thats it. So basically get another 512mb or two ramstick and install it into your computer and the game should run great because you have a decent video card. Nvidia 8400 gs, its better then mine and oblivion runs geat on my system. Another option is to do a tag search and check the performance tab. Then it will show you all the performance enhancing mods out there. Good luck!
cold_steel
if i have a 1gb ramstick, how could I get that to, well, work as my ram? Can I even do that?
Tamujiin
I will tell you, but if you mess up your computer or the ramstick, dont blame me. on the inside of your computer you will notice other rams sticks. if there is an empty port, put that ramstick in there, if there isnt pull one ramstick out and put the 1gb in. DO NOT FORCE IT! it might be a little tough and you might need to give it a little wiggle. Also commence sense says if it doesnt look like it will fit dont put it there. Also make sure you do all that while your computer is totally unplugged. Then run a BIOS thing on start up and enable the new ram. otherwise the ram should just automatically work. The port will most likly be brown and going vertical ( thats up and down ). it is about 8-10 inches long. And please dont misconstrued what my last sentance was. Carah
It only helps a little with stuttering, but turn off all your auto saves in options. Don't forget to save
