As the title states I am wondering if I can

1. download the mods through the mod manager even though i do not have the game installed?

2. aside from the CBBE mod and the skimpy armor mod what other mods are good for a first time modder?

3. take not i am probably running on the bare minimum requirements to run the game so nothing to big aside from character mods.

4. how do you also get the body slider to work for CBBE?

The best thing you can if you want to mod your game is the following:

1. Put a folder on your desktop that is Skyrim Mods.

2. Manually download the mods to folder that you have used the exact name of the mod. This folder will be in the mail Skyrim Folder you have on your desktop.

3. You now have a main folder and in that folder is another folder specifically for the exact mod you downloaded. It also has the exact name in case the mod author gave the actual file some wierd name that does not really represent that mod. You may need this at a later date and if the name of this file is unrecognisable because you will not remember what it is if you have to trouble shoot.

4. Now you will always have a back up copy of that mod.

5. IMHO use NMM to manually install that mod and you will be in a much better position to troubleshoot any issues that may come up as you add mods.

Good luck.

Eh... Immersive Armors and Immersive Weapons is a bit much for my taste. I'm fine with the items they add, but why in the hell is Hadvar more pimped out than the captain he takes orders from? Or General Tullius himself?

That said... OP, these mods are in most load orders these days:

I'd recommend, if you're running bare minimum requirements, Reduced Vanilla Textures, the Skyrim Stability patch, ENBoost, RaceMenu, SkyUI, the Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch (If you purchased the DLCs along with your base game. Otherwise, just the unofficial Skyrim Patch), Weapons and Armor Fixes Remade, Clothing and Clutter Fixes Remade.

You can add or remove all sorts of mods according to your taste from there.

I do run on minimum specs, but I also manage to use Windsong Character Overhaul. So you could try it.

I do NOT recommend gameplay overhauls until you've finished the game at least once, or at least until you get a decent understanding of how the base game works and what you would like changed. And once you have, be sure to take Alternate Start: Live Another Life. Keeps the experience fresh.

Finally:

You have two options. NMM or MO.

I personally use MO so my game's data folders remain as clean as possible. NMM is more user friendly, but MO is a more powerful tool.
