CBBE conversion causes exploding mesh issues

I'm converting one of my mods so that it can use CBBE. I got the mesh conformed, working well with Bodyslide, checked all the rigging, and so forth. Everything looks good in Outfit Studio and NifSkope, but when I load into the game, I get this:

It looks to me as though the mounting point for an identity disc on the back is getting flipped around 180 degrees and causing the surrounding mesh to twist up, but I can't for the life of me figure out why. If I re-load the nif into Outfit Studio and copy the bone weights over to it from the vanilla model, then this problem miraculously goes away (though this raises a new one re: convenience). Any thoughts?
