On occassion, I've been posting updates on my progress on a novel I've been attempting, St. Tiffani in the Fall. So far, I've plotted out a fairly complex story, involving drugs, the downfall of a religious statue, vampir and one very mad scientist. More importantly, I have been working on the structure of a race called the Ephemeroptii, who are commonly referred to in the city of St. Tiffani as Mayfliers due to characteristics similar to those of the mayfly.

However, I ran into a frustration in my story. This city, St. Tiffani, seemed too sparse and barren with only two races. The Mayfliers are physically similar to humans. In fact, they look almost exactly alike, with the notable exception of silky wings. So, I had the idea of adding another race to the city. Now, the Ephemeroptii have a mostly violent history within the city, and I didn't want a new race to have that same history. Also, I didn't want the new race to look so human. So, I've got some ideas, but I need some input.

Should I go with roaches and extrapolate them into an amalgam of roach and human? Should I go with mantids, a group of which the praying mantis is a member? Should I go with some other insect, animal or plant?

If you think I should go with something different, post your specific idea.

so, are the mantids gonna look like zorak ® ? that would be cool. or, make it some other insect, or something, like scorpianites! that would be awesome! they would be like horses with the stinger tail, and bi-pedal (meaning they walk on two feet, dudes...). or, maybe make it like a hydra with a twist...like it has the three heads but is a bird, or something. also, if you run out of ideas, just make them like a puff of smoke, formless, but able to shapeshift, cause they are particles. and those, my friend, are some good ideas from a project oriented person!
