SenorSkeletor
Title really says it all, apparently this is an known yet rare issue. I've heard it involves out-of-date audio drivers or problematic codecs. I've installed and uninstalled several codecs, updated my drivers, reinstalled my drivers etc. I've tested this with a modded New Vegas, and a fresh install. I've verified the integrity of the game cache several times over, and installed a reported solution (installing media feature pack) to absolutely no avail. Complete and utter silence, making the experience on a whole much, much more dull and lifeless feeling. Excuse me for my lack of knowledge on the topic, or a know-how on the correct way to post in the Technical support forum. Just absolutely exhausted and frustrated. I currently have a "Nvidia High Definition Audio Driver", if that helps. Not an expert on the technical issues involving audio. Thanks guys! :)
dubiousintent
Does this problem only happen with FNV? Does everything else output sound fine? Which device are you trying to hear: through headphones or speakers? The game outputs sound through the Windows sound drivers by way of the DirectX drivers. You have to have the correct output device configured in the Windows "Sound" Control Panel (this affects the technical differences between the devices), as well as the cabling of the device plugged into the correct ports on the computer. Not all have the plugs on the front of the computer case connected, but they do have them connected on the back. It is also possible you have your headphone or speaker input plugged into the "mic" (input) plug on the case instead of to correct the "speaker" (output) plug. The sound control panel has a "test" button on the "Sounds" tab. You can select any of the "Program Events" sounds which have a "speaker" symbol and when you click on the "test" button you should hear the associated tone. If not, you should first check for a hardware problem mentioned above. Do you have DirectX 9 installed? (Note I do not mean a compatible version such as DX10, but actual DX9 drivers themselves.) Please see "Cause-1" of the 'Issue: Vanilla game Hangs on startup' section in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide. -Dubious- Edited June 29, 2017 by dubiousintent
SenorSkeletor
Currently using headphones, yeah, New Vegas outputs gunshots dialogue and more just fine. It's just the music that's not working. No audio problems outside of New Vegas however, works as it was supposed to. Also switched what port my headphones were plugged into to mix things up, to no avail. Thank you for your quick help by the way! It just seems like this is something, though extremely annoying, I'll just have to deal with
dubiousintent
You shouldn't "have to deal with it". It should be fixable. If it's only your FNV music (which are MP3 files) that isn't working, then it's almost certainly FNV Hardware Options (configured when you first launched the game by way of the vanilla launcher) failed to recognize your sound card. First confirm what your Windows Sound Control Panel is using as your device, and then re-run the Hardware Options and make sure the same sound device is recognized. Please see "Why I don't hear music from Windows Media Player" for a description with screenshots of the Control Panel settings. If that doesn't resolve it, it may be an issue peculiar to your version of Windows, so please provide that info in as much detail as you can. -Dubious-
