Laichonious
Should probably pay more attention to the forum main page, but I have posted this problem on the Realistic Lighting thread as well...oops anyway, When I load up the game, everything looks fine at first glance. But if I look to the right or left or walk forward, move in general, it is like an invisible plane is hoving over my head and blocking out the sun. also if I look at a building the shadows are cast towards my character and bear no relation to where the sun should be. As I move about in the world, the plane moves with me so I can see a shadow line, very clearly, advancing before me about 6 feet away. I have tried nearly every combination of settings in regards to the shadows in both the provided advanced options window and in the .ini. so far nothing works. I noticed this problem after I got a new video card and I fear it may have something to do with the drivers but I had a flickering shadow problem with my old card and was able to fix it by tweaking the .ini file. as far as my searches have revealed, no one has had this exact problem. I haven't been updating Skyrim as I have read many a posting on the interwebs that vehemently advise against updating to newer patches. I tried going to patch 1.3 but there was no impact. my old card was a BFG 9800 GT and I was running the game on high settings with some tweaks to the skyrim.ini file to help with the flickering shadows. If anyone has any ideas I would be happy to try anything. Thanks! Edit: I captured a video with FRAPS and put it up here: http://youtu.be/NxcjE-Uw3zQ I hope this clarifies what is going on. My suspicion is that the engine is trying to apply the shadow map from inside the building to the outside environment. The map is too small so it bugs out and flickers. That odd plane is visible though even before I go inside. Edited February 21, 2012 by Laichonious
Laichonious
So I just updated to patch 1.4 and it still does nothing for the shadow problems. Bethesda's tech support is nonexistent and this thread appears to be either dead or suffering from the "I've never had this problem so it's not my problem" syndrome. I will continue to toil and try to find a fix but prospects are bleak. This is a game-breaking bug and I am thoroughly surprised at the lack of documentation or help on both the parts of Bethesda and the community at large. I implore: has anyone seen this bug? Do you know what causes it? Can you help me fix it?
windarial13
Sorry to say I don't have any helpful ideas. Though I think this is the problem I have. I've never had any trouble with shadows before. But this started after I installed the HI-res DLC. There might have been an update in there as well. I downloaded it just a few days ago. If you do figure out any helps I'd be thrilled to hear them. xX1mpulseXx
I also don't have anything helpful to contribute, but I have the problem same problem as well. It's basically making the game unplayable, since when your inside a building it's harder to see and just all around frustrating. Please let me know if you find out how to fix it, as I haven't come across anything either. :( Edited March 28, 2012 by xX1mpulseXx
