MorwynKelm
The problem with that trick is that it adds a huge pile of bloat to the ini and adds weird stuff to the save. Skip step 9 and just create a new save.
vile83r
I just ran into this problem today and I was panicking. I had ugrids at 7 and added HD textures and got stuttering so I wanted try reverting to 5. I followed the instructions on Nvidia's Tweak For Skyrim site. Upon launching Skyrim I got the red tint of doom and no matter what saves would not load even after restoring my skyrim.ini file. I took it as a clue that something else had been modified. I searched the term "ini" in the data folder and I sorted by modification date which also takes in time. Sure enough a random ini file for invincblehawk (a mod) had been modified within the timeframe that I was messing around with it. I deleted the ini file and bam. Works like a charm. So for anyone else who might have this issue and see this thread. Look for any modified ini file that is time stamped within the time frame that you were tweaking ugrids.
