Hey everyone,

I'm posting this question everywhere to see if people can help me. I'm working on a mod for Skyrim Special Edition where you can ride a boat around on the water. However,..... the boat I currently have sinks to the bottom of the water and two when I put the player on the boat they won't show themselves sitting. I'm wondering what's causing these issues.

I basically took a horse and replaced it with a boat mesh. What I wasn't expecting was the boat to sink or float to the bottom of the water. I figured the boat would at least swim properly, but that is not the case. Apparently, the boat sinks and will not float or swim. I've got the horses animations set on the mesh model, but for some reason it doesn't seem to respond correctly.

Now I noticed a few green markers on the boats floating on the water in Solitude's dock area. I tried to copy one of those and paste it to my boat, but I don't think it helped since in game the boat still sank. Is there a way to make the marker stink to the mesh where it will keep the boat above water or do I have to create a script to keep the boat floating and the player character's model in place?

I've been through the creation kit website and I couldn't find any references to boats or how they float on water. Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't know much at all about horses in creation kit, but the boats are static models that don't actually float. They just sit wherever you put them, so the developers have taken a static longship and dragged it to a point in the game, and then decided how high or low in the water they wanted it to sit. Even the "animated" boats, which rock gently back and forth, are statics. They'll do the same thing, if you drag them to a spot 10' above the streets of Whiterun.

I have had pretty terrible results, with my attempts to attach a static mesh to a mobile item, like a piece of armor. I can imagine you'll have the same troubles with a horse. The best advice I can give you, with very limited knowledge myself, is to check out a mod like Nordic Carriage Company, or Touring Carriages (either on SSE nexus or the oldrim version) and see if you can figure out how they got the carriages to move around. Unfortunately I have no idea, whatsoever, how this would be done.

Carriages "work" because there is a script that attaches them to a horse.
