Keeps freezing during combat

Okay, thank you for the replies. I didn't mention any change that caused the crashing because there wasn't any. I installed nothing, changed no graphic settings, nothing changed whatsoever. No, I have no mods installed as I previously stated other than the unofficial patch which I installed after the fact in an attempt to stop the crashing- it didn't work.

The link also said to just do whatever I could and people would help if I didn't know how. I looked up what a load order is (I was under the impression it had something to do with the computer) and I don't even have any mods, so.

I apologies for not having read your first post more carefully and for having come in a dry manner.

Let's try to recap your problem and ask additional questions:

You've made the multi threading fix in the INI according to Prensa's post.
- Could you check if the change is maintained in the INI file and not reverted by the game?

According to Black Rampage your specs are sufficient to play the game.
- Is there a way to check if your system uses the dedicated graphic card and not an integrated one?

You don't have any mod installed (beside the unofficial patch).
- Do you have Any DLC installed? If yes in which order are they loading?

You didn't make any change in your computer setting.
- Could it be possible that Windows had made an update by itself?

You have your game installed in Program Files. (You don't feel like changing it.)

Freezing occurs when fighting several enemies and/or using laser pistol. (Both situation put some xtra strain on the computer)

FO3 is an old 32bits game not optimized for 64bits system (That's why I still play and mod it on XP)
Many 64bits user seems to have trouble with it.
The most common problem is related to where the game is installed.

So, unless the additional questions reveal something, my guess would be that it's related to it, even though I can't guarantee that making the change will solve it.

With the Data we have, it's the most plausible cause, even if it has happened after a period of time without problem.

So I checked the .ini folder and the changes had been reverted. Upon changing them again and trying to load the game, I got an error that goes as follows:

"The savegame cannot be loaded because it is outdated. Its version is -1 and the current version is 48."

I don't know what to make of this. I don't know if this solves the problem and even if it had, I'm not sure how I would know because I didn't even get the problem until about 20 hours into the game.

I'm not sure if there's a way to check the graphics card

I do have DLCs. They are loaded in the following order:

Anchorage.esm
ThePitt.esm
BrokenSteel.esm
PointLookout.esm
Zeta.esm
I do believe it's possible Windows has updated. I never manually make a change- usually I'll just get an "update and restart" or "update and shut down" and don't think twice about it. It's very possible that's an issue.
I have had problems with FO3 before on my old computer. It wouldn't even run for the longest time. I don't remember what I had to end up doing to get it to work because it was just so long ago, but I do remember that I had some issues with it. Nothing involving freezing or crashing, though.
Thank you for your help. My biggest concern with changing folder locations is that I'll have issues with other games or forget that I changed it and end up messing everything up, because that sort of thing is kind of my specialty. To me, that feels like a last resort, mainly because I'm unsure about the kind of havoc it could reign on my gaming life! I hope you understand my apprehension about that.

The error message seems to be related to not playing with Admin rights. See : http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/117854-13-fallout-load-saved-games

for possible solution.

To prevent the reverting of the INI fix, save it as "Read-only" after the changes. The reverting seems to be related also to Admin rights and/or game folder location.

Your DLC order is correct.

You will have to find out by yourself if Windows update is involved with your problem, I have no real experience with W10, sorry.

Here is explained the dedicated vs Integrated thing : https://www.quora.com/How-do-I-know-which-graphics-card-my-games-are-using-Is-it-an-integrated-or-dedicated-one

I understand your apprehension. But I believe that if you follow carefully the instructions given @Steam (maybe get some help from a more confident friend) your gaming experience will improve in general, at least with Steam games...

Even if you don't make that change, you probably will have to start a new game.
