Can't download Mods at all

Well, it's now really clear that your screens are not navigating as they are supposed to, and that screams "no javascript" or at least some components are being blocked. Unfortunately the screenshots don't include the full window I asked for, so I can't tell if you have a secure connection (TLS/SSL enabled), and not clear if that is part of the issue. Also, you didn't say if this only occurs on the Nexus site. Make sure there aren't any "blocked content/scripting" messages on screen either. These might be from a heightened security setting change that MS implemented by way of an update.

That it occurs across three different browsers is really puzzling as it is unlikely they each would be configured "badly" in the same way. Making a Win10 system service/update issue that changed/broke something more likely, but I don't have any idea what that would be (I'm not migrating to Win10 if I can help it).

I know you have been saying you aren't blocking javascript, but this page will automatically check if javascript is working and display a message with the result. It also tells you how to enable it for various browsers if it is disabled.

A potential solution I found if that doesn't work is:

Browse to C:\Windows. Hold the shift key and right click on the SysWoW64 folder. [use an account with "Administrator" credentials.]

Type the following commands then reboot

regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

Please follow option three in this tutorial:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Also, at least one user had similar problems which were finally tracked down to some "tracking protection" software they had installed/enabled (from an AV program I think). Apparently Win10 has had similar issues with all browsers pop up intermittently going back to it's initial release, I'm finding. None seem to have a consistent solution, but are system related and only occur on some sites that use particular features.

The link you provided confirmed that Javascript is running with no issue on my system.

I am not having issues clicking links on any other websites.

I've been looking through the forums and I've found quite a few people experiencing this issue.

As for "blocked content/scripting" messages, there are no errors messages of any kind appearing anywhere on my screen.

I know where they would display, and they aren't.

I will try using SFC and see if that has any effect.

 Duh! Should have made this connection earlier! Check your Anti-Virus logs and support forum.

I've been trying to think of what would affect all three browsers and might be blocking only some elements of a web page. It has to be something on your end because the rest of Nexus users in general are not having the same issues. I was close thinking about "system services", but AV makes perfect sense; and if you have just returned from a deployment (thanks for your service  ) it also makes sense you would have received a ton of updates. That tends to hide the source of the change.

That sort of "false negative" is a common problem with every AV once in awhile. Try a different (free) AV if necessary.

:wallbash:. Maybe it's bad "cached web pages". Here are some suggestions from Firefox. I'm sure there are similar for the other browsers.

You can try basic steps like these in case of issues with web pages:

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

The steps provided above had no effect.

I feel like it is worth mentioning that this is occurring as well, bear with me.

Let's say I typed in the url www.nexusmods.com into Chrome. I have absolutely no issues navigating the website (or any other websites for that matter, or downloading anything) up until I try downloading mods.

Let's say I tried the same thing in Firefox or Edge.

Type in url www.nexusmods.com

If I go up the drop down menus at the top (ex. Files) they drop down normally, just like they would in Chrome.

However, let's say that on the Nexus homepage (using firefox or edge) I first selected my particular game (oblivion, skyrim, F:NV).

Once i'm on the page for the game itself (so that the logo in the top left says nexus mods [insert game here]), the drop down menus do not work.

I don't have add-ons for either of those browsers. I almost NEVER use them, and I had never used them to access the Nexus website until this issue began.

I'm at a loss. I understand the logic in this being on my end, but I almost feel like this isn't on my end.

I have downloaded emulators, .isos, I've used illegal streams, I have no issue doing absolutely anything on my device.

The ONLY thing I can not do, is download mods on nexusmods.com

I really hate to leave a problem unsolved, but I've hit the limit of what I know. I'm not a web designer, but it's apparent there is some common element used on those pages that is being blocked. Everything points to it being something that changed on your system. But as I mentioned earlier, without any idea as to what recently updated it's almost impossible to identify the source. That leaves identifying the element on the web page that is not functioning correctly. At this point it seems to just be "javascript", but only some particular aspect of it. Most of that is hidden in code on the server side. As you get the most functionality on Nexus with Chrome, see if you have the ability to examine the elements of a web page and then check with them or search the web for problems with that particular feature.

The last resort would be to either revert to a prior "restore point" and only update one "fix" at a time and test between each, or re-install either the browsers or the entire OS. But that doesn't prevent this occurring again.

I sorry I'm leaving you hanging. I would be interested to hear the solution if you do solve this.

Thanks for the feedback. Registry problems are really subtle and tough to identify. They are often the result of an "uninstall" program failing to completely clean out everything. Which unfortunately is an all too often occurrence.

Glad to hear to you got it working again.
