bturnbow
Hi All, I'm preparing to enter Skyrim SE for the first time after giving Oldrim a break. I have messed with a few texture mods in the past but I am very intrigued by the S.E.P.T.I.M. approach. However I have the following: Core i7-4790KRadeon R9 Fury (4 GB)16 GB of RAM1440p Freesync monitor I want to play in the native 1440p resolution, but I only have 4 GB of VRAM. Hoping someone can help guide me if I wan to follow S.E.P.T.I.M. Specifically, Step 3 with regards to Skyrim Flora, Realistic Aspen Trees 4k, and Verdant Grass Plugin. I don't know if I qualify as a "strong system." I don't think FPS will be as big an issue as the amount of VRAM I need. So the question is would I be better off just using Skyrim Flora by itself, or maybe stick with the "Medium Strength System" but it's really confusing as there still so many steps involved. Would my setup work favorably with all of S.E.P.T.I.M.? It's a lot of work to go through that to discover it won't run like I hoped. Thanks! lukull90
Hi there, i played oldrim with an gtx 980 before i switched to the se edition and i had a lot of trouble with it....just because 4gb are not as much as everybody think.Your CPU is quite good, enough for skyrim, and your RAM is also fine. And yes you can use flora overhaul and yes you can use 1440p, BUT:His guide is meant for stong systems if you want to follow each step.So dont use every 4k option, 2k is enough and can be handled by your gpu. Lower your grass inis for verdant and don't use as much towns overhauls, except you want 20 fps in towns.Test your system and compare between the high and medium option of "Skyrim Flora, Realistic Aspen Trees 4k, and Verdant Grass Plugin". br
QuagaarWarrior
Assuming you're using a mod like alternate start to help you test your mods once you have them installed, there shouldn't be a problem installing the mods, testing them and then removing them after. Particulalry if you're going to start a new game once you've made a decision
belenbelen
I second what Quagaar have said. Test them and see it for yourself. As for the rig it self, it's quite solid, i used to have that GCard, it's a blast and the way it allocates the memory somehow makes everything better. You are good to go, just avoid 4ks.
LeddBate
Like the others have said above, you're only (probable) issue is trying to use 4K graphics at 1440 with only 4GB of VRAM. Go for 2K graphics where possible and test as mentioned above. A good test ground (after starting with LAL) is to go straight to Morthal, enter the Jarl's house, accept the quest and then try to step back outside. This particular area, with that quest active, is (graphics) memory intensive for some reason. If you don't freeze up or crash there, you're probably good to go with those mods. jones177
Hi Before I started modding the game I test the vram usage for all areas. The highest I saw saw 4.8gbs. All the high spots were in remote areas for some strange reason so I would think you would be fine. I play at 4k & 1440 & don't use texture packs. The vanilla textures look fine even at 4k. On the old Skyrim I replaced just about every texture. If I had to replace any it would be some of the wooden posts in the cities. Skyrim & Skyrim SE use the same amount of vram at any resolution(Old CPU based engine). All the games that use this engine are like that. CosmicArrow
Right now I'm working on my current load order for Skyrim SE and I use Pfuscher's 4k textures with everything else 2k on a gtx 970 4gb @ 1080p and get 60 fps on my test runs in the forests. Vram usage so far is around 3800. My system is: i5 3570k OC @ 4.4 gzgtx 970 4gb16 gb ram1080p monitor Every setting is maxed except Vsync is OFF in game and turned on in Nvidia control panelGod rays turned OFF.Shadows quality is on HIGH.Shadows on Grass is turned off. Hope this gives you a frame of reference. Edit: I would also like to mention I used Verdant + SFO and it really hogged a lot of resources on my system. I switched to just Veydosebrom and I absolutely love it. Edited October 6, 2017 by CosmicArrow
