h0ll0wd0ll
Hello Modders Please, please, I beg you with tears in my baby-brown eyes, will someone create a mod that fixes the wacky physics (grab a cup, in the middle, really?) and the issue of items not staying in place in this wonderful game. I am SO sick of dropping, saving, exiting, re-entering, placing, saving, loading, having everything fly all over the place and then repeating the whole process. I just want to decorate my houses. WHY is there no mod (that works with ALL versions of the game) for this yet? Placing this weighty issue in the capable hands of the modders now. Thank you. Saratje
Thank you. Items not staying in place is very likely an error related to Skyrim somehow storing item positions in a cached file or save and then loading the item positions from an outdated cache, thus thinking they are in a different place than they should be. Several mods which add new races such as playable Dremora have a similar caching issue where when a game is loaded the appearance of their character is reset to a default, until that player walks in and out a few areas a few times and re-does their character with showracemenu after which saving will suddenly stick without errors. The reason there is no mod is that it's most likely not a simple matter of swapping around a few strings and inputs in the creation-kit. It's probably hard coded a good bit deeper in the game. But for the items rotating when you pick them up, it may be possible to somehow make them freeze (like with no-clip) when picked up so they stay static and cannot rotate or move when bumped into something or held in the air too long. Someone'd have to look into that, it could be as simple as a script or command being activated whenever you pick up an item to apply no-clip or freeze behaviour on that particular item you are holding. JanusForbeare
Waaay before the CK came out, someone pointed out that it's generally only the most recently dropped item in a cell that bounces around upon re-entering. They suggested, and my own experiments have confirmed, that if you drop and then pick up another item (something you don't intend to leave as a decoration) that it seems to lock the rest of the items in place. I'd give that a shot, if I were you.
h0ll0wd0ll
Thank you for your replies and suggestions. I am really frustrated with this as I have tried every suggestion numerous times and it's pretty hit and miss, with some objects staying where placed and others returning to where they were dropped no matter how many times I save and reload, exit and enter cells, drop and pick up other things... *sigh*

Be sure to return it to how it was if that's altered in your .ini files too. It won't stop the game from placing items where it 'thinks' (caches) where they belong, but if you had random items bouncing around when entering the vsync may do that too.
