The mods Skyrim NEEDS

andiders

Recommended Posts

This is a thread, where we collect mods, that Skyrim needs. Things that should be in Skyrim, but isn't.

Here you can post what you think should have been in game as standard.

nd this thread is for modders that wanna do what Bethesda didn't do.

So lets start.

1. More animals and creatures

No one else then me that think that Skyrims wildlife is poor? ONE type of birds? Wolf packs containing 2-3 wolves? No lynxes? 5 types of fish only? Where are all the birds? No golins? No ogres? Why are there no deadras where conjurers are at? Just atronachs? No deadroth, clannfear or even a scamp? I would like too see a Xivilai!

You should be able too summon those when you're a master conjurer too!

Maybe grahls? Bats? Boars? Minotaurs? Cliffracers near the border of Morrowind?

I can go on for hours. I found Skyrim Wildlife very poor...

2. Improved magic

I know there is mods for this. But those I found are mostly overpowered or stuff like that.

But seriously? Magic in Skyrim is HORRIBLE. Not much magic, take destruction for example. Three attacks, exactly the same BUT one is fire, one frost and one is shock/lightning. It needs MUCH more spells too each school of magic.

3. More characters, bandits etc.

I like the two mods that add more people in cities and roads, but the game still needs more people.

Sailors in the docks, traveling merchants, more bandit camps and so on. Maybe small hunting parties? Researchers outside Dwemer ruins? More life.

This is just a few, people please fill up with more.

And modders reading? Please, if you can, fix this. I want it, and I know MANY others do too.

I agree 100% on the magic.

Speaking of which, Skyrim needs to bring:

1. Some awesome Morrowind weapons. Jesus, whatever happened to my beloved crossbow? I pulled off ridiculous stunts with that, not to mention, isn't Skyrim supposed to be AFTER Morrowind? There should be at least some form of weaponized explosives by now (Bomb crafting anyone?)

2. Some sort of vision enhancing item, LIKE A FREAKIN' TELESCOPE. Galileo had one, jeez, and it had about 3-30x magnification. Very useful for spotting stuff on High Hrothgar.

3. Some sea-sailing mods. Seriously. Boats were a huge part of Norse life. WHY ARE THE ONLY ONES I SEE IN PORTS OR ARE CRASHED?

These are just a few of the improvements I think Skyrim desperately needs.

This game really needs more models/retextures that are based off of Vanilla things/In line with Vanilla culture. The Vanilla culture of things in this game is really good, it's just that Bethesda betrays the game's culture in a lot of ways, so that needs to be enhanced.

A total rebalance of the combat in this game. I think Dark Souls did medieval combat best out of any game by making it fun, accessible, skill based, balanced and very diverse.

More things that you need to rely on NPCs for. There are tons of NPCs in the game, but you still do pretty much everything on your own. Blacksmiths should be the ones who sharpen your axes, or you can put in weapon requests with them and they'll forge it over some time for a fee.

As a side note, crafting should be a lot less accessible. It shouldn't be just spam Iron daggers a million times to become skilled at blacksmithing. The game should reward you for makng more complex pieces. Each item's crafting XP should be based on the ingredients used to make it, along with the difficulty (A dagger is easier to craft than a full suit of armor after all), and as you level up the XP needed should be curved...it's way too linear. So an iron dagger gives you a small amount of exp but its a lot at a lower level of smithing, but later on crafting iron daggers wont be practical for getting level ups in smithing, still like that.

Get rid of the "eye" in the center of the screen. I hate trying to use archery on something thats very far away and they eyeball is covering it up.

Crosshair or smeak eye?

Crosshair can be removed in settings, sneak eye I don't know...

I agree 100% on the magic.

1. I agree on that one. Dwemers made crossbows. Don't remember the Morrowind ones. But bombs would be too much i think.

2. Not sure about this one though. It feels like something the dwemer could've invented but at the same time no. It would hit performance when eyesight would need too be enhanced too.

3. Yeah, more boats! Maybe some boats out in the sea with sailors on? Fishermen?

Yeah, I agree on that one. After one level, the item shouldn't bring any XP.

Like when you have reach level 10, leather shouldn't bring XP, and 15 or 20 iron shouldn't and so on.

You see several examples of large Dwemer crossbow/Ballista. In all the time that has passed since then there are no portable crossbows? Really?

The technology required is not that great. A vertical peg that catch's the bowstring attached to a pivoting horizontal lever that acts as trigger. Simple ones could easily be made by anyone with basic woodworking skills with nothing more than knife and something to drill a hole.

There should be small crossbow "pistols" for thieves, fire for a ranged attack then switch to edged weapons/magic.

Large heavy crossbows for castle defense, Big enough, and heavy enough to ensure you don't carry it around everywhere.

And Horn mid sized crossbows that would have shorter accurate range than a longbow, but would do double damage at short range.

I am new to this forum etc and im really tired so i havent had a full browse so im sorry if this is mentioned somewhere.. I personally think Skyrim BADLY needs some sort of location search/filter keyword or something search function as there is a lot of places in Skyrim and you may/may not remember them all

I was watching Braveheart and realized Skyrim needs Taunting badly. When your standing by an officer and he or she is giving a speech or pumping the soldiers up, you just stand there with your sword in your hand. dissapointing to say the least. I like the thought of hammering my shield or stomping your foot. Talking smack and yelling threats at the touch of a button sounds very appealing. anyway just a thought.

More quest branches. I've mentioned it before:

-Why can't my Speech 100 Imperial peacefully resolve the differences between The Blades and the Greybeards?

-Why can't I side with Mercer?

-Why can't I side with Alduin?

-Why can't I side with the Jarl of Winterhold and undermine the College there? Collapse it into the sea or discredit it?

More factions to join:

-Each individual cult/coven/band/tribe/crew of witches, hags, conjurers, necromancers, bandits, orcs, pirates, et. al. should be a joinable faction.

-Why can't I join the Forsworn? (And why isn't it a racial option?)

-Why can't I become a priest or lay-person of the Imperial Cult?

-there are still worshipers of the Tribunal, why can't I join them?

-Why can't I kneel before Potema and join her?

More responsiveness in the landscape. In Morrowind, when you were building a keep/home/whatever, you got to watch it take shape. You had a sense of accomplishment measured by the visible changes in the world due to your actions. One of the quests builds a new Daedric Shrine. Skyrim needs more of this. If you conquer a ruined castle (maybe you wiped out the vampires lairing there, maybe Baalgruuf gifted you the ruins of the destroyed watch-post, maybe you purchased a haunted mine from a desperate shmuck), you should have the option of hiring mercenaries and laborers to staff/rebuild it (something I greatly enjoyed from the Oblivion Pirate Home DLC). The amount of resources (tools, metal ingots, money, food, etc) you bring in and deposit in its coffers should directly impact how fast it grows/rebuilds/attracts more members. If you're operating a bandit clan, trade caravan, or other organization out of it, their actions should also reflect and be reflected in the status of the encampment. Maybe even starting a small town around it. This can naturally lead to quests wherein you but heads with the nearby Jarls or other settlements, defend yourselves from bandits (and dragons), etc.

-One a related note: Why can't I start rebuilding Winterhold?

-Second related note: Here I am, in icy wind-swept mountains, shouting loud enough to tear dragons from the sky, summon storms, and rip the weapons from the hands of trained soldiers. And yet there are no avalanches? I know completely modifiable terrain like the older Red Faction games would be ridiculously exhaustive and system intensive, but at least make some concessions to the fact that my character is part of the world and affects it, rather than just briefly ghosting through it.

More responsiveness in the population. Not just general 'hey, did you hear about [reference to your actions]' chatter. But actual developments. Does nobody want to talk about the fact that I single-handedly executed every living thalmor agent on the continent? Really? The Thalmor are no longer an issue. I could assassinate Tullius or Ulfric in their sleep and get away scott free (except for those pesky Essential-Tags on their characters), why am I forced to wait through this drawn out war?

I love the Hunger/Thirst/Sleep mod and the Hypothermia mod, but they need indicators on the main HUD as to their status, and they need to actually update correctly (Stop telling me I'm starving and penalizing my health when I just ate 4 steak dinners, half a roasted horker, guzzled a gallon of mead, and slept six hours). And the Hypothermia mod needs an expansion: If, as has been rumored, one of the DLCs for the game involves going to Hammerfell or another desert area, excessive heat should lead to exhaustion and weakness.

What happened to all the old Daedra? Clanfears, Ogrim, Scamps, etc? Where did they go? Why can't they be summoned?

A lot of the old magics have vanished. I can no longer blind enemies or Noise/Confuse them to keep them from casting, or fly, or walk on water, or teleport, or increase my running speed, or any of a hundred other effects which were common as dirt in Morrowind. Where did they all go? (And don't get me started on the Mysticism thing)

Likewise, where did my medium armor go? The armor that walked the line between Light and Heavy? At least one mod adds in some of the lost weapons like spears and such, so that's a relief, but I think they need to re-proliferate the skills. Bring back Athletics and Acrobatics.

One bit of gear I remember from Morrowind was the 'Nordic Trollbone Helm'. Only ever the helm. I always wanted to see the full suit of Trollbone Armor. Bethesda didn't bother to make it, it seems.

There are more but I can't think of them now. I'll probably be back later with more of my laundry-list of ideas.
