Problems with Novac.

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone dull potato chips here, and recently I have been having a problem, actually it's been a problem since I first got Fallout New Vegas, now here's the thing.

So on my first day of getting it, I got it off Steam, and at first, I had no mods at all. None at all. So I was just doing a normal play-through, you know just basic good ol' vanilla Fallout New Vegas, and it seems as if there's a glitch, bug, missing texture, or something wrong with Novac, cause when I go there, it just freezes, I've tried fast traveling, going there normally, tried coc Novac, and crash. It'll crash either way and the crash is bad. It doesn't CTD, It crashes so hard that I have to Hard-Boot my computer and it's honestly annoying because since I couldn't go to Novac, I couldn't "take highway 93 up" like Trudy said, I had to tgm and fight through deathclaws to get to New Vegas through i-15. And there's like, two quests I have to do that require going to Novac, such as one for Deathsong Brotherhood, and something else, I can't remember it off the top of my head, but every other area in the Mojave works fine, I can go to areas surrounding Novac, such as Clark Field, Gibson Scrapyard, HELIOS One, Nelson, and others, and I've also tried out other places to see if they cause any crashes, they don't. And I have tried countless a number of times to try to figure it out and work on that place being able to go there, but just have had no progress. If anyone could help out, maybe some tips, that would be greatly appreciated. :cool:

Please see the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article. In particular the 'Towards Game Stability' section has some mods that fix problems with the basic game. (Don't recall anything specific to Novac, though.) But read the whole article. Lots of things in there that are not apparent otherwise.

dubiousintent, i'll look into that, and yeah axonis, even without mods, dude. but my idea is that maybe all of novac wasn't installed completely, and it's missing something vital that causes the crashing.

Maybe the problem is this?

It's worth trying all the great mods that fix the flaws of this game.

Personally, I think it will NOT solve the problem, but it's better than beating your head trying to figure out the cause

Hey everyone quick update, I just went ahead and re-installed New Vegas, now Novac is just okay! I guess it was just a bad install, since my internet is kinda sucky, even with my Ethernet cable plugged in it sometimes goofs up on downloads. No hard crashes, no crashes in general, because I actually looked up tutorials on like, How to install NVSE correctly, NVAC correctly, NVSR correctly, and be more careful and reading through mods to understand what I am doing! So far only modding troubles I have is just installing ENB's, but its not a problem because I can just use NMC's Texture pack and be just fine! I might need maybe some help on properly installing Obscurum Pandemic when the time comes.. because I watched Al's playthrough on it, first 4 episodes there were a-lot of crashing, FPS drops, etc. so I might just go no mods on Pandemic because it brings in unique new stuff anyway, so yeah! After DUST tho, because DUST is a warm up to this buggy mod. So yeah thanks guys!

I would suggest verifying the installation.

In GOG, it's under More->Manage Installation->Verify/Repair

In Steam, right click the game, then it's under Properties->Local Files->Verify Integrity of Game Files

So Now that I've done that, it says there is one file that failed to be validated, reacquiring now.

Not gonna lie, Im at a loss for what to do now...

"Verify files" will always reacquire at least one file. That's normal. Bu if that does not fix your problem, (assuming it is the same "Novac" issue of the original poster), then you will need to re-install the game. In which case, Please see the 'Restoring to "Vanilla"' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article.

If this is not the same "Novac" problem of the OP, please start your own thread and provide ALL the information requested in the wiki "How to ask for help" article. Details matter.
