I have been adding all the mods I like from the nexus. I have downloading ALL of the MODS Ilike from the NEXUS Sight. That is a lot of mods. Last night I began to put the mods into my DATA file, etc. like allways and when I tested My game I found that ALL of mysaved games were corrupted and unusable and I could not start a new game. So I looked at the new mods but when I tested them individually they worked. So It took the greater part of the day and it seems that I can not get any more Mods into my data file. Is there a certain number of mods that you can put into your Data File? None of my mods have been activated in the DATA FILES STARTUP WINDOW so I don't understand why the game is acting so funny . I would appreciate any help anyone could give cause after reloading nearly fifty plus mods and testing them I am missing the A's through B's in my data file. Thanks Zappa :wallbash:

Well, Thats your fault. Not the mods, not the computers not the games. I will tell you one thing. ANY game you mod, check it out first, see how many things can go wrong. This is a common problem with new people. So the advice i am going to give you is look at the various PINNED subjects, expecially the one about corrupt mods. Do a little research and you should easily find your answers, and what to do and not what to do.

But i will tell you the quicker way if you dont want to do that. Unistall everything. When Oblivion is uninstalled go to where the data file is and delete it. Delete everything there.

Install oblivion again. Then Install ONE mod at a time, and test it to see if it works. You will find the culprit. Good Luck.

Also Alot of the CHEAT and GOD mods are corrupt, or will mess up your game.

And yes there is a certain amount of Mods you can have. 256, including the Oblivion.esm. there is a work around for that though, to find that do a little research.

There are some mods that will not work properly when used when another mod. One Example is certain eye mods. I have seen many complaints of no eyes caused by this. Then, some mods need to be loaded before some other mods or they will not work properly.

The best policy is to try not to load in mods that change the same thing until you understand what the second will change from the first. Such as, if you load in 2 different body mods, usually the second one in the load list will overwrite the first one. But some parts will not be overwritten and will cause unexpected results or game crashes.

Programs such as OBMM (Oblivion Mod Manager) or Wrye Bash can help with load order and finding mod incompatibilities.

You should be able to load as many mods into the Oblivion\data folder as you want, but the game can only have a little over 250 activated at ant time.

If you were using OBSE (Oblivion Script Extender) and did not load it then any saved games you try to run without loading OBSE will not work.

Thanks, I allready had around fourty mods in my data file and activated when I downloaded more. I realize that adding new mods can effect a previous mod or even cause a conflict, however I was not aware that simply having the file in the data file would cause a conflict. I have allready fixed my game as far as getting it to run, ect. I have also found mods which are conflicting or crashing the game. When testing I started at Z and worked my way up to A. Now I am at the B's and every mod crashes the game even mods which previously worked. So what I understand is that a mod can conflict even when not activated so that mods can't be loaded into my data file until they have all been crossrefrenced with each other even though they have not been activated. I will also try the file extender and see if that helps although I don't know how it works. I seem to remember trying to install it a while back but I gave up for some reason. THANKS FOR THE HELP.

Just countet the number of mods in my data file and I have well over 200. I didn't think I had that many so I must have hit the ceiling although none of the mods are activated at this time. I already reset all of my mods to turn them off so I am not sure why I cant add more to the data file.I did find and remove a corrupted file but I believe the source of my current problem may be the number of mods. As suggested I will try to find a tool to extend the number of mods alowable in my data file. OK I have looked into the 256 limit and I have found some links that suggest merging mods usinWrye Bash wich I am attempting now. Also I have seen some refrences to FCOM but I don't know what it does. I will research this one at length later. I am wondering if there is actually a tool for increasing the limit out there. I have seen links that talk about a 300 + limit but no actual discussion about a tool, etc. What I think I can do at my skill level is try to merge as many like mods as I can. Howevr, as I cannot get all of my mods parts(esp, tex, mesh ,etc.) into my data file I do not know if I will have to merge what I have in there and them add more and merge them again. Can I create a seperate folder and use the Wrye Bash to merge as many like mods as I can?

When you install a new mod that has textures and meshes, those are placed inti the data/Textures and data/meshes folders. If any of those ave the same name as any from another texture or mesh, and they are not kept in their own separate sub folder, conflict even if the mod that put them there is no longer active. That is the only way I can see an inactive mod causing problems.

There is no limit - that I know of - to the number of inactive mods that can be kept in your data folder. However, Oblivion launcher and OBMM launcher may have a limit that they can display. I do clean out any mods I no longer use just to keep down the clutter.

Still working on my game crash problem and my corrupted saves. It appears that most of my saves are fine. Some are beyond help but most check out ok. My game seems to work when I remove any mod with the "Black" prefix so I am guessing that those mods must have big conflicts in some way. If I remove all of my mods between "A-B" my game works just fine even with conflicts. Is there a tool that can examine a mod and tell you if it is corrupted?
