Beoroth
The Vigilants of Stendarr are (as far as I am aware) the only "good" faction in Skyrim. This is the reference from UESP Wiki: "God of the Eight Divines/Nine Divines, Stendarr has evolved from his Nordic origins into a deity of compassion or, sometimes, righteous rule by might and merciful forbearance. Stendarr is the inspiration of magistrates and rulers, and the patron of the Imperial Legion. He is said to have accompanied Tiber Septim in his later years. In early Altmeri legends, Stendarr is the apologist of Men. Stendarr created the Gauntlets of the Crusader for Pelinal Whitestrake, to help him defeat Umaril the Unfeathered. He also created Stendarr's Hammer." They would therefore seem the ideal faction for my current "Paladin" style character to join. However - their Hall is situated in the middle of a mountainous wilderness; they only seem to have half a dozen lines of dialogue between them; and they are not a joinable faction. The "evil" factions - (Thieves Guild & DB) are easy enough to join, so I can't help wondering why the only "good" guild is locked out. Yes, I know that the Companions are marginally "good" - if you can apply that phrase to mercenary lycanthropes ;) - but why make the Vigilants inacessible? Krawll
The vigilents of Stendarr are not all that good . They're kinda like the Silver Hand, they're extremists. They fight with what they consider as " Good intentions " but they'll often cross the limits of good in order to kill what they consider to be Evil. The Blades are the same, they beleive that all dragons are Evil so they want Paarthunax dead and there is no way to make them understand that he's a good dragon. It doesn't matter if he helped me kill Alduin , he's a dragon he doesn't deserve to live. I pretty much see the Vigilents of Stendarr as the same kind of organisation , only instead of fighting Werewolves like the Silver Hand or Dragons like the Blades, they fight the Daedra. If you realy feel the need to roleplay your paladin, choose yourself one of the Good divines , visit his or her temples once in a while , make offerings at his/her shrine just for the sake of role play and receive their blessings and then go fight evil in his/her name . Now it wouldn't surprise me that since the creation kit is out, someone might eventualy come up with a new faction of Templars or Paladins and they would be joinable and offer quests and stuff like that . I'm sure it's doable , we just need one or more of the good modders to actualy feel like doing it . Krawll
eltucu
They look like DLC placeholder to me, or an unfinished idea that half made it to the game (like the winterhold college for example :P )
scottmack
Vigilants of Stendarr fight anything they consider an abomination this goes from daedra to werewolves to wild flame atronachs. At the moment they are totally hollow as a faction with only one quest, which suffice to say. Their "representative" doesn't last very long. Either way they'll either have some kind of expansion DLC wise, although I doubt it. Or they'll just stay as they are, pointless :P
Beoroth
Thinking about a Paladin's Code of Honour, I came across this - from the Song of Roland. Roland was one of the senior knights at the Court of Charlemagne - and it was at that court that the concept of the Paladin was first codified. Charlemagne created 12 Paladins, to lead his soldiers & to protect his person. This was in the 8th century, so it pre-dates the concept of the chivalric knight by a long time. The Knight's Code from the Song of Roland To fear God and maintain His ChurchTo serve the liege lord in valour and faithTo protect the weak and defencelessTo give succour to widows and orphansTo refrain from the wanton giving of offenceTo live by honour and for gloryTo despise pecuniary rewardTo fight for the welfare of allTo obey those placed in authorityTo guard the honour of fellow knightsTo eschew unfairness, meanness and deceitTo keep faithAt all times to speak the truthTo persevere to the end in any enterprise begunTo respect the honour of womenNever to refuse a challenge from an equalNever to turn the back upon a foe The world might be a better place if people still followed this code!!!
