milamber25
Hey guys, I've been playing Oblivion almost since it came out, but I have recently added a few mods, namely; Alternative start (the one with the boat)Crowded RoadsOrigin of the mages guildSeptim MansionTNR all races update thingy All of these were found through your forums, so I assumed (maybe foolishly?) that they would problem-free (within reason). They were also installed using the instructions on the forums. Having added these mods and enabled them through the data files button in the start-up menu, I launched the game. Now the ground is broken down into tiles of purply nothingness with a picture of what could be Cyrodiil in the middle. This only happens outside, interior floors are normal. Also, random items, such as breeches, have had their item picture replaced with a green unrecognisable pixelated image. I have tried turning off the mods, but the problem persists. What have I done wrong!? I'm a bit of a noob at mods, so please feel free to state the obvious if I've made a glaring error! Thanks, Alastair P.S. sorry if this is the wrong place, I couldn't decide between here or mod help, as I suspect that the problem was caused by mods.. Vagrant0
It's a known issue related to the 1.2 patch, related to how those images are linked in game. The mods listed are not directly responsible. The only solution as far as I know is to reinstall and try again. Unfortunately since this problem only seems to happen within a modded environment, Bethsoft has no interest in fixing it, and instead chooses to blame all mods for it happening. milamber25
Ok thanks. If I reinstall with that get rid of the patch? And hence fix the problem?
Vagrant0
Ok thanks. If I reinstall with that get rid of the patch? And hence fix the problem? The patch you use depends alot on what version of the game you're installing, and what you plan to also use. SI and many newer mods require 1.2 to be present, so you are best off with the latest version of the patch (since the one that originally shipped with SI, or was initially available caused many more problems). If what you install is 1.2, you're stuck with 1.2 and all its related bugs. If what you install is 1.0, you should try finding the 1.1 patch and just dealing without SI or any mods that are based on 1.2. The real deal with this bug is that it is inconsistant, it either happens or it doesn't, something related to how texture data is handled. Reinstalling, and using the same setup you have now doesn't necessarily mean that the problem will continue. Reinstalling and changing your current setup doesn't mean that the problem will necessarily be fixed. Your best option is to search for this issue to see what you can find out. Admittedly I'm a little behind on this, so somthing more useful might be out there.
milamber25
I reinstalled the game and added the mods and the problem seems to have disappeared =] My saves are not corrupted, so everything looks peachy! I assume the patch has now gone, but I don't have SI or KOTN so I wont dowload it, and just live with the bugs etc thanks for your time mate =]

If you are using 1.2, you should patch it to the latest possible. Afterall, bethsoft wouldn't have gone through the trouble of releasing updates as soon as they did if they didn't screw up majorly with the first version. milamber25
Ah, ok will patch it up again then! You'd think they'd actually sort a game out before releasing it, or is that me just being naive? lol
