Arneercool
Something i have thought off for a while, and now decided to share with those of you willing to listen and maybe, just maybe, consider 5% of what i have to say.First, let me say that i know that most of you make mods for your own sake and very gracefully decide to share it with the rest of us, and thank you very much for that. Now, let's talk about what we can do better. To do that i need to play out a scenario i more than once have come upon, i goes something like this. 1. I find a super imaginative workshop item, and i decide to download it. And Lo and behold, it "just works". Noice!. 2. So now i think, that's just neat'o, and go on my business, traveling to Diamond city to check out the merchants. A bit down on the merchants list i see that a new veggie or ammo type is at sale, and is it not tagged. "Oh no!!,That.Just.Worked like 10 minute ago, wtf!" 3. Now i get a nagging feeling and my ocd kicks in. So everything gets shut down and i go into my load order, a load order i know by heart and only use loot to see if I'm right. So i run that sucker and suddenly 2 weapons are moved up into my workshop section. 4. I get even more frustrated and kick up Wrye and Foedit and my worst fear comes to a realization. My newly obtained workshop item adds ONE untagged veggie, a new mesh for diamond city guard clothing, 2 new ammo types and places a unique variant next to Preston in Concord, and make it so that it has to be above the unofficial patch, btw, you need all the DLC because you need Longfellow's beard mesh and some misc item from nukaworld.... I now have to hunt down patches for, or make myself. Now wrye tells me that this patch is placed wrong so i have to go into foedit, something a lot of people shy from, and fix it myself. 5. Now everything sort of works, but only because i'm a goddamn magic retard enforcing my will through sheer mongoloid strength, and all i wanted was i new deck for my patio. 6. You now have 15 reports in your bug section and 25 requests for a patch in the comments section, from people not as autistic as me.At this point you probably get the drift. I think it is about knowing ones own, the game, and others limitations. And the story about Icarus, or "that line" from Jurassic park, springs to mind. Thanks you for all your wonderful mods, please never stop making them, but please DO try to simplify them where possible. Thank you. Now you can rip me a new one. Edited July 30, 2017 by Arneercool
MaxShadow09
Whats the point of this post? You're complaining because some modders leave behind things in their plugins that shouldn't be there, or the plugins themselves are a mess? Well, everyone has to start somewhere, and when you are new to modding, you make mistakes. Lukily, it doesn't take long before your comments section is flooded by complains, so anyone who comes a day or two after the mod is released will easely notice that mod is not worth downloading. I usually order the mod browser by endorsements first, and then by date. Any mod that doesn't appear in the first pages of those lists is prone to be forgotten, unless the author tries to fix the problems. Anyways, if every modder left modding just because he had to "know his limitations", then many good mods today wouldn't exist. Constructive criticism is always better than angry complains.
