DarkLylyth
Hey all, first time modder here. I had a couple of questions regarding a new mod that I'm making. In it, I wanted to use the werewolf body but change it so that it looks more like a hyena. I ran into a problem with that, as I can't figure out how to modify textures, or body parts of the werewolf in the Ck. When I open the race info for the werewolf, it does not show any face data, as I think that it treats the werewolf body as one object. I then tried to do this with a Khajiit, but ran into another dead end, as I can not figure out how to alter base features, I want to extend the snout a bit to make it more canine, so that it looks like a hyena. Would I need to use a different program to do this with?
WorldShaperDragon
With the werewolf: you will need to directly edit the meshes, because the werewolf wasn't designed as a directly playable race; ie, it wasn't designed for the char-gen process. You still won't have a char-gen useable race without a huge load of work, and even then you'll have a massive amount of work cut out for you getting things like armor, weapons, animations, etc working how you want them due to the different base skeleton the werewolf uses. With the Khajit, at least back in the days of the Construction Set for oblivion, you could have sort of done it in there (Esp. the snout), but it would immediately screw up the moment the player touched any of the sliders for the facegen. In skyrim, I've got the suspicion that it will be necessary to do a fair amount of modelling work, but it should be nowhere near as difficult as modifying the werewolf race. After I finish with all the requested alternate forms of the Alduin's Scale armor, (and get the weight sliders working right), I was planning on tinkering around with creating beast races, though I'm not sure how soon that will be. Definitely not before this coming weekend, and perhaps not even immediately following it since I might be attending a wedding depending on the scheduling of some courses I have. DarkLylyth
yea, I was thinking that I liked the Khajiit better for it. What programs would you recommmend for the modelling?
WorldShaperDragon
Well, some people will recommend blender since its free, and it is both free and powerful, but I can't stand the UI; I was practically raised on the *max family programs (originally gmax). I personally have been using max 2012, which if you are a student, educator, or qualifying unemployed individual, you can get for free (Along with boatloads of other free autodesk programs, including the predecessors max 2010 and max 2011) from the autodesk education site: http://students.autodesk.com/?nd=download_center (specifically those listed there) - and its much less of a hassle to register for than say, microsoft's equivalent program (due to glitches and poor instructions >.<), but occasionally they run out of license keys and have to put more on the site which can take a week or so; even then, the software will run for a month without requiring activation (its the 1-month trial mode; it doesn't cripple the functionality either). DarkLylyth
Great! Thanks a bunch....I've been going insane trying to make this mod...Im now having trouble trying to find a way to put a new sound file into the game, but hopefully that should be resolved soon
WorldShaperDragon
Since I have temporarily put my other project aside while I await help with my vertex explosion issue with certain parts of that mesh, I have decided to tackle messing around with the race meshes & getting stuff to work in the CK, though I doubt any serious results will be out in a timely manner since I'm going to likely be pretty busy the next two days. DarkLylyth
thanks for all your help Wolf...I really appreciate it :D When this mod is finished, Ill add you to the list of contributors :) Hope that you accomplish what u want to do in the CK :) Im currently testing to see if the custom powers I made work....I modelled them after existing ones, so there shouldn't be too many problems....hopefully :/
DarkLylyth
well I've got the Racial power working just fine, but Im having trouble with the "cannibalism" effect. I'm trying to make it somewhat like the werewolf's but I don't know which magic effect to use, as they split up the different effects. I have currently found 3 effects (WerewolfFXFeed, WerewolfPlayerVictimEffect, and FeedRestoreHealth) tied to different abilities that the werewolf has. I know that the first enables the blood animation, while the last restores health, but I don't know what it does, or in what order I need them. Do I take them all? If so, can I just take the werewolf powers?
WorldShaperDragon
You would have to create a feeding animation for the standard NPC skeleton, which currently is apparently impossible without redoing just about every other animation for said skeleton. In other news, I managed to model a head for the race I was working on (which is canine enough I suppose); going to take a bit more work before I'm ready to try popping it into the CK though (need to do stuff like the mouth mesh, etc.)
DarkLylyth
yea, that probably would be why nothing was happening. What about the Ring of Namira? I noticed that a script was attached to the file. Im wondering then if the actual feeding part of the ring is a Papyrus script...which would probably make my life a bit easier That's pretty neat :) How long did it take you to do all of that?
